After almost a year of silence, the Swedish garage rock-beast has awoken yet again. This is the follow up to the band’s debut  ‘Love. Live. Lambada’. Get ready for a party in your ears or a headfuck because Baby this album is an explosion of Rock and Roll with melodies to die for (ok maybe not die but get winded for at least) its sugar-sweet in a way that Biters used to be but its got a pop sensible edge, when I say edge if the Bay City Rollers were edgy then yup edge.  it’s rockin’ I know that much and with the added samples like on ‘To The Rescue’ its where it gets a little psychedelic.  Most of all this album is a fuckin’ smile on a rainy day.  If you’re feeling down put this on and go splash through some puddles barefoot.
when the press blurb said “Think the pulse of Bay City Rollers, the twin guitars of Thin Lizzy, and the energy of Richard Simmons£ man they nailed it  but I think its a little bit better than that and some. ‘Second Coming’ is a homage to classic rock and yet a breath of fresh air. With lyrics about lusting after ‘Sigourney Weaver’ to the lost DJ-career of Simon Pegg’s character in modern classic ‘Shaun of the Dead’ this becomes a lighthearted feel-good album no question. ‘Smiley Riley’ is like if Saturday Night Fever was from Stockholm and not New York and they were trippin’ on twin guitar licks and not so heavy on the disco beats.
‘Tropic Island’ makes me thirsty for some goofy sappy slow dance rock n roll but still, it’s addictive and like a moth to a flame, you can’t not get closer to those speakers its great stuff. Penultimate ‘Events In Advance’ is a tasty slice of Buzzcocks inspired punk rock had Phil Lynott been co-writer with Shelley (just hold that thought for a second) The band checks out with an epic six-plus minutes ‘Space Phase’ is like a loose ‘Beast Of Burden’ trippin’ on some Beach Boys Ooh Ooh’s .  It shouldn’t all work but it does and I’m not concerned if the lyrics make any sense – Frankly, I couldn’t give a shit. ‘Second Coming’ is a cracker and after rolling my eyes at the band’s name I can only apologise to them because they could be called the dogs danglies for all I care I’d be barking mad not to love this record.

After 35 years of Pure Rock n Roll, The Quireboys are now ready for a new challenge. We bounced a lot of ideas about, but unanimously came up with something rather special that will allow fans to experience and immerse in a totally new side of The Quireboys, with a full Orchestra behind them. This special project aptly named, Orchestral Quireboys will be created, rehearsed and staged as a double header, ONLY @ the 02 Forum Kentish Town UK on the 4th & 5th September 2020. This is not a cheap project but something the band feels will create something live on stage that has never been witnessed before.

The whole set will be recorded Live for an exclusive Limited Edition Double Vinyl & Double CD pack that can only be bought here. We had a bad experience with Pledge recently, hence why, when we heard our label was creating a new Fan Funded platform called Hell Raiser, we knew we could possibly pull this off with our loyal fans support. This album will not be available anywhere else apart from this Hell Raiser Platform, A timeless piece from a magical adventure

All Royalty & VIP tickets for both Live nights @ the Forum next September, Signed Black & Coloured Double Vinyl Packs, Signed CD packs  plus a few other specials can only be bought from our new fan funding platform Hell Raiser giving our Label and management team, full control of this whole campaign.

Its something we know we can pull off, it will take an incredibly long time, not to mention patience, perfecting the arrangements, rehearsing the songs, however in every way possible it will be totally worth it, whats more all Fans who help us reach our Raise can also get the only copies in the World of the show on Vinyl or CD.

This means a lot to all of us and we really want to make it a show like no other. If you feel you can help us make it a reality, please feel free to get involved

The high-energy San Antonio pop punk/alternative band Finding September might be on the brink of finding themselves a new winning formula with the release of their latest single “Hostage.” Led by frontwoman Emily Bayardo’s brawny and rebellious vocals, the track dives into a darker, more dramatic sound than their previous releases. The song and video made its official debut via Substream Magazine.

The emotionally raw track comes screaming out of the gate with a razor-sharp guitar riff that is soon accompanied by thunderous drums and a chugging bass. Amidst the chaos, the song is adorned with an impressive vocal performance and operatic synth line.

Finding September began creating their pop-thrashing sound in 2018 with the release of their high-octane debut EP History. The record featured a myriad of influences and sounds ranging from pop, punk, R&B, metal and beyond, laying the groundwork for what’s to come next.

Listen to “Hostage” now on Spotify.

Born Mark Feld on 30 September 1947 at Hackney Hospital, the son of Phyllis Winifred (née Atkins) and Simeon Feld, a lorry driver.  Was inspired to get into Rock and Roll by the likes of Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Chuck Berry.

Before becoming Marc Bolan he had the stage name Toby Tyler when he met and moved in with child actor Allan Warren.  He signed to Decca Records in August 1965. At this point his name changed to Marc Bolan via Marc Bowland. There are several accounts of why Bolan was chosen, including that it was derived from James Bolam, a contraction of Bob Dylan, and – according to Bolan himself, that Decca Records chose the name.

He recorded his debut single “The Wizard”,with session musicians playing all the instruments. “The Wizard”, Bolan’s first single, was released on 19 November 1965. It featured Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan

Whilst Marc was alive he recorded and released twelve studio albums Made a film ‘Born To Boogie’ and a tv series. He was there at the birth of punk and was happy to take The Damned out on tour with him.  When people think of Glam rock and I mean real Glam rock, not the insipid tripe that came in the ’80s I mean real flamboyant Glam Rocks with great songs by the bucket load and Album after Album that shaped the ’70s and became a staple of TOTP and had kids fainting all around the UK at the sight of his flowing curls and glitter eye shadow.

In ’71 he released ‘Electric Warrior’ that spawned ‘Jeepster’ and ‘Get It On’. The band consisted of Mickey Finn, Steve Currie and Bill Legend. It was followed up a year later with the awesome ‘The Slider’ that spawned the hits ‘Metal Guru’ and ‘Telegram Sam’ then to complete the Hattrick the band released ‘Tanx’ but the biggest hit was ’20th Century Boy’ which didn’t make the album and was recorded in Japan whilst on tour.

Bolan recorded a further six albums before driving his Mini 1275GT driven by Gloria Jones as the pair headed home from Mortons drinking club and restaurant in Berkeley Square. After crossing a small humpback bridge near Gipsy Lane on Queens Ride, Barnes, southwest London, the car struck a fence post and then a tree. Bolan was killed instantly, while Jones suffered a broken arm and broken jaw. There is a memorial where the crash happened where fans leave all sorts of notes, flowers and messages.  Bolan was survived by a son Rolan Bolan who recently recorded a video for 20th Century Boy Which we featured last week at RPM.

T rex as well as releasing some Twelve awesome albums also managed to knock out a paltry Twenty Nine singles From ‘Deborah’ in ’68 to a posthumous release of ’20th Century Boy’ that reached number 13.  71 to 73 was the purple patch with no less than four number-one singles inc ‘Hot Love’, Three number twos and several top-fives.  T Rex and Bolan really were at the top of their game with chart success second none. Still an influence on bands and songwriters today Bolan will always be a legend and he might well be gone but he’s most certainly not forgotten.

It only seemed like yesterday that The Brutalists breezed through the door with an album that made many people sit up and pay attention as these seasoned pros (I’m sure they won’t mind that) used every sinew of nous between them to craft one of last years best debut albums. I’m pleased to announce that 2019 they’ve seen fit to put on their dapper zoot suits and loafers and jump on their Lambretta’s to deliver their sophomore album ‘We Are Not Here To Help You’.

Let’s get straight down to business with ‘Leave IT Out’ (try not to put on your best arfu Daley when saying that. It’s bright and breezy as it ducks and dives around in its pork pie hat and finest Mod fretwork.  With a nod and a wink to the ’60s rhythm and blues we’re right on it. What you might call a right solid opener.  Not spectacular and certainly not disappointing. The guitar playing is tasty and the solo is retro tastic.

It’s not about the singer its not about the image it’s about the song and These Brutalists have got a duffle bag full of ’em. Nigel Mogg guitarist/vocalist Kent Holmes, bassist Robert Cripps and vocalist/drummer Charlie Nice are knocking out a really good legacy of tunes as The Brutalists ‘If I Just Do Nothing Now’ is complimented by a really sweet rolling organ underneath the melody as that Cockney charm is given a workout.

‘Take It All Away’ gets a bit Bowie funky on us and shows that this isn’t just a one-trick pony although it fits in with the bigger picture it’s more akin to the Stones around their ‘Emotional Rescue’ phase perhaps even on the middle eight it has shades of Japan or a more pop sensible Hanoi Rocks I kid you not. ‘Something To Say’ falls outta Notting Hill in the late ’70s and no doubt Mogg gets his best Strummer happening as the band chill out and kick back. Getting a little deeper in their Ska ‘Price On Your Head’ is an excellent bit of skank as the musicians really cut loose.

If you never heard the debut and thought you might be picking up a Rock album considering the LA Guns and Quireboys connections then I suggest you take a deep breath and open your mind to new sounds because this isn’t like either this is something else entirely with elements of the Small Faces and the Clash mixed with some Rock and Roll and Ska this is a mixed bag for sure but its the sound of a band really working on their songs and delivering another impressive record ‘You Got Nothing On Me’ rocks it up to compliment the laid back vibe of the previous few tracks but essentially this is a band comfortable making music they want to hear and writing the second album of really strong material it might be lacking the instant appeal of the first one based on the fact that I expected to hear something along the lines of what they deliver and I’m glad to report that it doesn’t disappoint.

Fear not rockers because ‘Useless Information’ is a sweet little rock and roller.  If only Keith and Mick could put an album together as good as this these days fans would be drooling. The last part of the album is definitely in Stones territory and the sum up this album on the final track ‘It Was Never Meant To Be  So Easy’ well, that’s certainly what they make this Rock and Roll business sound like, It’s not a piece of piss is it? but the Brutalists make it sound like that.  I strongly suggest you at least check this out but I’d go further and say just Buy it you won’t be disappointed.

German heavy metal band, BLOODY TIMES, have released a new lyric video for ‘Alliance‘, featuring ROSS THE BOSS (ex-MANOWAR) on guitars. The track is taken of the album ‘On A Mission‘ which was released in January 2019, and features ROSS THE BOSS (ex-MANOWAR), JOHN GREELY (ex-ICED EARTH) and RAPHAEL SAINI (EX-ICED EARTH).

The album was mixed and mastered by OGrego (Winter’s DawnNecrorgasmEmerald). Album artwork by Stan-W Decker (Ross The BossPrimal FearMasterplan).

The Line up consists of –

Ross Friedman – Rhythm and solo guitar (Ex-MANOWARRoss The Boss Band)
John Greely – Lead and backing Vocals (Ex-Iced EarthSeventh Servant)
Raphael Saini – Drums (Ex-Iced Earth)
Marco Cossu – Rhythm and solo guitar (INEXIHIBIT)
Rainer Pfundstein – Rhythm and solo guitar (Big Mama)
Balazs Fleischhauer – Rhythm and solo guitar
Simon Pfundstein – Bass and backing vocals

In 2014 the name “Bloody Times” was first used for a collection of recorded riffs and demos by bassist Simon Pfundstein, who is therefore known as the founder of Bloody Times. Unlike a classic band formation, Bloody Times slowly evolved out of a solo project. What was created as a hobby led to the production of the first album two years later. THE FIRE OF IMMORTALITY was released as debut album in November 2016. On this album, Simon was supported by former ICED EARTH drummer Raphael Saini. All other instruments were recorded by Simon.

In the following year, two of the existing songs were re-recorded with John Greely (Seventh Servant). Since the release he has been the main singer of Bloody Times. John is known for his performance on the album “Night of the Stormrider”, which he recorded together with ICED EARTH.

Work on a second album began in late 2017 with John on vocals and Simon on bass. While Raphael is also on drums in this production, different guests were on guitar. Five different guitarists contributed their skills and were also partly involved in the songwriting process, which was otherwise mainly done by bassist Simon. The passion for music and metal unites all the members and guests of the project.

A special guest and supporter of the resulting album ON A MISSION is Ross Friedman (Ross the Boss), who founded the heavy metal band MANOWAR together with Joey DeMaio in 1980. Since his retirement from MANOWAR Ross has been working on his own albums and projects, but his fans adore him most of all for his contribution to the “immortal” albums from Battle Hymns to Kings of Metal.

Inspired by the mentioned metal giants and other heavy metal classics, a fantastic album has been created. It strongly reminds of “Old School Metal” and makes you want to hear more impressive songs, which Bloody Times will surely also release in the future…

I’ve said it many times before but I’ll say it again, there is no one else quite like Wonk Unit on the UK music scene. Their back catalogue is a cornucopia of musical delights just waiting to be discovered it really is, and it seems that right now with their popularity around the globe very much on the rise that this might be one of the last times I’ll ever be able to catch them in a venue of this size.

As silly as this might sound this is why I actually opted to watch other bands at Rebellion when Wonk were involved in multiple stage clashes back in August, it was because I knew I had this dynamite 3 band bill to look forward to and I wanted to sample every sweat-soaked second of tonight. I’m not alone here either as the Dragonffli is absolutely rammed even before the first notes from tonight’s openers blast out of the PA.

It’s great to see a still relatively unknown band like System Reset playing to such an appreciative (and large) crowd too, rip riding their way through a set of tracks largely drawn from their ‘Epidemic’ demo CD (available for just £2 from the merch stand) whilst adding in a few spiky sounding newer tunes into the mixer. Now expanded to a five-piece and featuring Trigger McPoopshute guitarist Shov on lead guitar this is the first time I’ve seen this line up playing a “proper” gig a year on since I first saw the then three-piece band opening for German hardcore metallers Tony Gorilla. The added oomph Shov along with Trigger’s Darrel Sutton on rhythm guitar brings to the band’s songs only acts to turbocharge their melodic brand of hardcore punk.

There are songs about the travesty of homelessness, a catchy number all about a former girlfriend curling one-off on the singer Stan’s chest, and there’s the slating of the UK government that is ‘May Already’ which also ends the band’s short but sweet set tonight.  System Reset made a hell of a lot of new friends here tonight and deservedly so.

A band I’d seen but 3 months ago are Cardiff four-piece Nigel (UK), a band I then compared to early Chuck Mosely fronted Faith No More, and here tonight they not only reinforce that initial impression I had but also get me scribbling down the other influences of Jane’s Addiction and most obviously Rage Against The Machine.  It’s certainly been a long time since I last saw a band open with a spoken word track, buts that’s just what guitarist Leon and bassist Alias do right here tonight. Dreadlocked singer Toby Lee looks kind of phased by this (almost) impromptu intro but as the band’s main focal point he’s very quickly transformed into part man/part blur as he tears around the limited stage/floor space afforded him tonight. Meanwhile, in drummer James Cousins, I find myself constantly looking to see if this guy has a third arm or is using a double beater bass drum pedal such is the ferocity with which he attacks his kit.  The band’s technical almost progressive take on their art certainly has a lot in common with At The Drive-In or maybe even Zen Guerrilla but playing in front of a much thinner crowd than the openers it appears it’s rather lost on some of my fellow gig-goers wanting perhaps more traditional punk rock fare.

Well more fool them I say as (band name aside – well you try Googling it and see what you get) Nigel (UK) excite the hell out of me, and whilst most UK rock musicians their age seem more than happy to don a pair of ripped jeans and a sleeveless black shirt and play watered-down versions of shite like Shinedown and Black Stone Cherry I applaud these four guys for taking a risk and pushing the envelope. Someone just needs to hook them up with their kindred spirits The St Pierre Snake Invasion, Mother Vulture and Dead Shed Jokers and get that awesome bill out on the road!

Wonk Unit too have of course been blending genres for many years now and it was, in fact, they who I last witnessed mix poetry with punk rock at a gig all the way back in 2012. Seven years on and they’re a band who still defies categorisation and as such they so remind me of what Ian Dury once used to do, mixing music hall vaudeville with ska via a healthy helping of hardcore punk with the subject matter never ever straying too far from Wonk main man Alex’s views on life in general. From opener ‘Los Angeles’ (by way of an almost 5 minute spoken word monologue where sound levels were checked and our MC for the night explained the guest request make up of the setlist) to the frantic closer of ‘She Cut Her Finger’ what you get for your money is 100% proof Wonk Unit, never predictable, and always absolutely hilarious. I’ll never grow tired of hearing the backstories to such amazing songs as ‘Lewisham’ or ‘Nan’ even if finding out that ‘Spooky House’ was entirely fictional was something of a fourth wall moment.

All the infectious classics are given a sound thrashing tonight with the likes of ‘Awful Jeans’, ‘King’s Road Sporting Heroes’, ‘Je M’Appelle Alex’ and ‘I Love My Nagging Wife’ all sending the packed crowd into a sweat-drenched frenzy. Towards the end of the night Wonk’s long term friend and System Reset guitarist Darrel Sutton takes the mic for an impromptu version of ‘Take Me Out To Dinner’ and this sees Max (Wonk’s all-new drummer) getting the chance to meet everyone first hand as he (rather tentatively at first) takes up the role of crowd surfer making way for Alex to step behind the drumkit, and with Alex seemingly loving the local Johnny Wise dance – you can but wonder how long before this “arms in the air” sensation is featured on an episode of Strictly.

Witnessing Wonk Unit in this up close and personal setting is what I love most about the band and it’s also what I’ve always loved about proper live music, it’s like everyone (including the band) is your best friend, and everyone is here just for the music…oh and Alex’s banter of course, and Wonk Unit really do channel the spirit of Paul Hollywood like no other punk rock band out there.

Priceless stuff!
