\"\"<\/a>Here\u2019s an unexpected collaboration. After buying one of Luke Haines\u2019 paintings online of Lou Reed, Peter Buck made contact and some form of musical bond was formed. Life can be wonderfully strange. So, here we are, in the unique mind of Luke Haines. I\u2019d be interested to know the level of Buck\u2019s contribution, not that I doubt it, rather, this sounds like pure Haines subject matter and style.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

While every album is different, you know it\u2019s him. This is partly the voice and presence, but also the choice of subjects. So, a not exactly concept-album, which references; the rocket scientist and occultist, Jack Parsons, who came to a spectacular end; post-apocalypse radio which only plays Donovan; Bigfoot; the Enfield Haunting and Andy Warhol.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For better or worse, my review is in the form of my list of notes for each song. As a tribute, and because, frankly, if you don\u2019t know Luke Haines yet, it\u2019s probably too late. So\u2026<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Jack Parsons\u2019; rocket science\/occultist, Crowley\/Thelemite, recorders, L. Ron Hubbard, dreamy melody, interview segments remind me of B.A.D.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Apocalypse Beach\u2019; post-apocalypse Donovan only radio station, Leach\/beach, acoustic strum.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Last Of The Legendary Bigfoot Hunters\u2019; tabla intro, fuzz guitar, groovy, \u201ccover me in feathers, like dead Liberace\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Beat Poetry For The Survivalist\u2019; homemade transistor wireless, lists, \u201cheavy Zen and a record by KISS\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Witch Tariff\u2019; Enfield Hauntings, \u201call the bad cats know where it\u2019s at\u201d, ouija contact Johnny Ray, Billy Fury, \u201cif you wanna be a legend you gotta break a few legs\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Andy Warhol Was Not Kind\u2019; glam beat, \u201cwe come in peace from Finsbury Park\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018French Man Glam Gang\u2019; sleazy, electro-glam pulse, la discotheque, like Human League Glitter cover.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Ugly Dude Blues\u2019; as it says, harmonica, RECORDER!,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Bobby\u2019s Wild Years\u2019; Cramps intro, angular\/Ants verse, \u201ceveryone\u2019s a genius in varying degrees\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Rock N Roll Ambulance\u2019; \u201chey, hey, hey\u201d, get on board the rock n roll hearse, \u201cour last hit-the closest to a hook that we\u2019re ever gonna get\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I can say this; if you don\u2019t like recorders, don\u2019t buy this album! But, if you\u2019ve ever bought a Luke Haines album, you should buy this one. Righteous.<\/p>\n
