Yup, its gig time as I head to Le Pub in Newport for Bad Sam\u2019s all-new single launch party.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Braving storm Dennis along with what appears to be a head on collision of a Friends Reunited meeting for Arkham Asylum and a Pokemon Go adventure party gone a little off course I have just enough time to grab myself a quick pint before local alt-rock trio The Oversights kick off proceedings with a punchy selection of what we used to broadly describe as \u201cindie music\u201d back in those halcyon days of TJ\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86633719_819398188561960_8534986373847842816_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-10817 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86633719_819398188561960_8534986373847842816_n-300x241.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86633719_819398188561960_8534986373847842816_n-300x241.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86633719_819398188561960_8534986373847842816_n-768x617.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86633719_819398188561960_8534986373847842816_n-1024x823.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86633719_819398188561960_8534986373847842816_n-1140x916.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>With \u2018Hello Adventure\u2019 their debut 5 track EP available at the merch table and a healthy number of people already looking to catch them live I feel The Oversights just need to get some gig experience under their belts before they become true contenders, but at this very early stage in their career things are certainly looking more than just a little rosy.<\/p>\n<p>With The Oversights idea of image being three Hawaiian shirts slung on quickly before they play it takes a mere glimpse out of the corner of my eye at Igam Ogam wandering through the crowd to really restore my faith in true musical eccentricity. These crazy fuckers look like a band formed by the cast of Psychoville and what\u2019s more they actually sound like it too. It\u2019s all a bit too Primus-y for my tastes but the between-song banter from drummer\/singer General Waste is absolutely priceless and bassist Grotty the Clown and guitarist The Third Person look and sound absolutely amazing even if ole Clowny could do with losing about 5 strings off that 6 string bass of his. As I say it\u2019s not my thing musically, but the packed audience seems to love the likes of \u2018Happy Families\u2019 so who am I to argue?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86696694_216164829517928_496726282181017600_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10818 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86696694_216164829517928_496726282181017600_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86696694_216164829517928_496726282181017600_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86696694_216164829517928_496726282181017600_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86696694_216164829517928_496726282181017600_n-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86696694_216164829517928_496726282181017600_n-1140x855.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Any new music from the Newport\u2019s favourite hardcore sons Bad Sam is worthy of a celebration so it seems completely right and proper that they have chosen tonight and Le Pub (the city\u2019s venue renowned for welcoming lovers\u2026not fighters) to act as the springboard for the band\u2019s all new 3 track \u2018Alcoholic\u2019 7\u201d single. It also feels right and proper that the band should kick off their set with a track from said release, and as \u2018Looking Back\u2019 unravels in all its Sabbath meets Bad Brains glory, this sets the tone perfectly for what is to follow with Beddis and the boys playing eighteen tracks from throughout their back catalogue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86697339_2768256616594396_3567247433438068736_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-10816 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86697339_2768256616594396_3567247433438068736_n-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86697339_2768256616594396_3567247433438068736_n-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86697339_2768256616594396_3567247433438068736_n-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86697339_2768256616594396_3567247433438068736_n-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/86697339_2768256616594396_3567247433438068736_n-1140x642.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve honestly never seen the band tighter or more focused than they are tonight as the likes of crowd favourites \u2018Bastard Son Of A Teddy Boy\u2019, \u2018I\u2019m A Terrorist\u2019 and \u00a0\u2018Black John Wayne\u2019 sit alongside deeper cuts like \u20183 Little Pigs\u2019 and \u2018Sweet Dreams\u2019, and never mind how much Beddis claims to dislike playing these latter tracks live, they still sound absolutely amazing through the Le Pub rig. What is surprising is that \u2018American Fat Fucks\u2019 isn\u2019t given a run out, albeit the long overdue reintroduction of \u2018I Love The Port\u2019 (which ends things in total chaos) almost makes up for this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve said it before, but it\u2019s worth repeating, that in the times we find ourselves in the UK needs bands like Bad Sam to give us something to believe in. So get off your arses and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Kriminalrecords\/\">drop Beddis a message<\/a> to secure your \u2018Alcoholic\u2019 7\u201d for \u00a35 plus P&amp;P, or if you live in South Wales why not pop into Kriminal Records in Newport Market and pick one up first hand.
