A live favourite, \u201cTelevised Mind\u201d heaves, drones, and churns &#8211; a perfect embodiment of the bruised and battered \u2013 albeit beautiful \u2013 throughline on the band\u2019s forthcoming LP, \u201cA Hero\u2019s Death\u201d (out 31st July via Partisan).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lE7vLPSfw6Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten says of the song:\u00a0<em>\u201cThis song is about the echo chamber, and how personality gets stripped away by surrounding approval. People\u2019s opinions get reinforced by constant agreement, and we\u2019re robbed of our ability to feel wrong. We\u2019re never really given the education of our own fallibility. People feign these great beliefs in order to appear trendy, as opposed to independently arriving at their own thoughts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We were listening to a lot of The Prodigy and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, specifically their song \u201cOpen Heart Surgery\u201d. I was interested in extrapolating those types of chord progressions and capturing this droning, hypnotic feel. That last line repeated over and over [\u201cWhat ya call it\u201d] is a buffer expression that people used here in Dublin. It\u2019s sort of like \u201cumm\u201d or \u201cwell&#8230;\u201d \u2013 it\u2019s what people say when they\u2019re distracted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018A Hero\u2019s Death\u2019 was produced in London by Dan Carey (Black Midi, Bat For Lashes). The band have previously shared other album highlights \u201cI Don\u2019t Belong,\u201d as well as the title track, which features a music video starring Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, The Wire, Peaky Blinders).
