\"\"<\/a>For those of you who don\u2019t know\u00a0<\/span>The Diamond Dogs were founded in the late 90\u2019s by vocalist Sulo\u00a0<\/span>Karlsson<\/span>\u00a0and guitarist\u00a0<\/span>Anders\u00a0<\/span>Lindstr\u00f6m<\/span>\u00a0who under the nom de plume<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>Bobba<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fett<\/span>\u00a0play<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0keyboards with The Hellacopters<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0which through reverse engineering<\/span>, is how<\/span>\u00a0I discovered\u00a0<\/span>them<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Musically the band is neck deep into the likes of The Faces, The Stones and The Pretty Things with a soulful garage edge and have over these\u00a0<\/span>Covid<\/span>\u00a0months been re-issuing their back catalogue.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The latest is \u201cAtlantic Juice\u201d that collates the songs from the 2003 Jeff Dahl \u201cAtlantic Crossover\u201d split album and<\/span>\u00a0a selection from<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cThat\u2019s The Juice I\u2019m On\u201d<\/span>\u00a0that I think in turn was a compilation album itself<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kicking the album off is \u201cFrom Now On\u201d that tells us\u00a0<\/span>\u2018<\/span>We\u2019ll Be Strong<\/span>\u2019<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>if anything is going to raise your spirits this is the perfect way to\u00a0<\/span>get things going in the right direction. \u201c<\/span>Scunthorpe Avenue<\/span>\u201d I\u2019m sure wants to be \u201c<\/span>Gimme<\/span>\u00a0Shelter\u201d as played by Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem<\/span>, with \u201cDrink\u00a0<\/span>To<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Ya<\/span>\u201d the best song the Robinson Brothers never wrote and \u201cYou Captured My Smile\u201d\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Diamond Dogs<\/span>\u00a0very own \u201cShe Talks To Angels\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u201cGet The Monkey Off\u201d features some great electric Piano<\/span>\u00a0straight from the School of Billy Preston<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>courtesy of<\/span>\u00a0The Duke of\u00a0<\/span>Honk, who<\/span>\u00a0along with Sulo\u00a0<\/span>in 2020 is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the only original member<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even though the songs were recorded at different sessions \u201cAtlantic Juice\u201d comes across as a well rounded flowing record\u00a0<\/span>that could\u2019ve been recorded in the 1970\u2019s down in some Chateau in the South of France<\/span>. The thing that stood out for me, especially on \u201cHurt You Twice\u00a0<\/span>As<\/span>\u00a0Much\u201d, is how much these songs need to be played and heard live. In the meantime I guess we\u2019ll just have to do<\/span>\u00a0with<\/span>\u00a0the very much appreciated vinyl<\/span>\u00a0and CD<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
