Records is thrilled beyond belief to present the LONG-AWAITED anthology of material by the legendary\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Lipstick Killers<\/strong><strong>, who blazed a trail in late \u201870s post-<u>Radio Birdman<\/u>\u00a0Sydney before gigging with the likes of\u00a0<u>the Gun Club<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>the Flesh Eaters<\/u>\u00a0in Los Angeles where they crashed and burned in 1981.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>The Lipstick Killers<\/strong><strong>\u00a0released just one single in their life time \u2013 the perfect \u201979\u00a0<u>Deniz Tek-produced<\/u>\u00a0pairing of\u00a0<u>\u201cHindu Gods of Love\u201d<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>\u201dShakedown USA\u201d<\/u>\u00a0on their own\u00a0<u>Lost in Space Records<\/u>\u00a0(and subsequently\u00a0<u>Greg Shaw\u2019s Voxx Records<\/u>\u00a0out of LA)\u00a0 &#8211; but a posthumous live album and a couple of archival 7\u201d releases followed. It was all incredible. All that material is included here, as is a plethora of additional stuff, all from the best-available sources (mostly the original masters).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Out June 25,\u00a0<\/strong><u><strong><em>Strange Flash<\/em>\u00a0<em>&#8211; Studio &amp; Live &#8217;78-81<\/em><\/strong><\/u><strong>\u00a0will be initially available in both\u00a0<u>black vinyl and orange vinyl &#8211; 500 copies of each edition of the 2LP is being pressed.<\/u>\u00a0Double-CD\u00a0 and digital editions, with the extended title of\u00a0<\/strong><strong><em><u>Strange Flash &#8211; Studio &amp; Live &#8217;78-81 + Psycho-Surgeons &#8217;76-78<\/u>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>and a significant\u00a0number of extra tracks, will also be available.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QL90X3k3TdA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Lipstick Killers<\/strong><strong>\u2019 enigmatic and high-energy sound \u2013 heavily inspired by\u00a0<u>the Stooges<\/u>\u00a0and the \u201860s psychedelic punk sounds of bands like\u00a0<u>the Thirteenth Floor Elevators<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>the Chocolate Watchband<\/u>\u00a0\u2013 bridged the gap between Radio Birdman and subsequent Sydney groups like the\u00a0<u>Sunnyboys<\/u>\u00a0(whose first-ever show was opening for the Lipstick Killers),\u00a0<u>Lime Spiders<\/u>,\u00a0<u>Hoodoo Gurus<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>Psychotic Turnbuckles<\/u>. And of course they anticipated generation after generation of other bands with similar things in mind, right up to today\u2019s \u201860s-inspired freaks like\u00a0<u>The Living Eyes<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>Thee Oh Sees<\/u>. And they put it across with a wild-eyed intensity; so much so that\u00a0<u>Circle Jerks<\/u>\u00a0and original\u00a0<u>Black Flag<\/u>\u00a0frontman\u00a0<u>Keith Morris<\/u>, having witnessed a couple of their LA shows, \u00a0later described them as\u00a0<u>\u201ceasily one of the greatest live bands I&#8217;ve witnessed in my 65 yrs. on this planet \u201c<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>Esteemed\u00a0American critic\u00a0<u>Byron Coley<\/u>, then\u00a0living in LA, was\u00a0another fan.\u00a0\u00a0The collection includes a reproduction of a piece Coley wrote on the band for the legendary\u00a0<u>New York Rocker<\/u>\u00a0zine, in he which throws around terms like\u00a0<u>\u201chigh Six-Oh grunge consciousness\u201d<\/u>\u00a0and\u00a0<u>\u201cmind-churnin\u2019 pieces of gunk\u201d<\/u>\u00a0in the process of rhetorically asking what\u2019s so great about the band. He answers himself by saying the Lipstick Killers play\u00a0<u>\u201csome o\u2019 the greatest stuff I ever heard, that\u2019s what!\u201d<\/u><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<u><strong><em>Strange Flash<\/em><\/strong><\/u><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>will be available in two formats. The double-LP includes the original 1979 single, the posthumous\u00a0<u>\u201cSockman\/Pensioner Pie\u2019\u00a0<\/u>45 plus additional studio masters from the same \u201978 session, an unreleased album length 1980 demo session recorded by Australian guitar god\u00a0<u>Lobby Loyde<\/u>, and the near-complete LA show that comprised the original live album\u00a0<u>\u201cMesmerizer\u201d<\/u>\u00a0(<u>taken from the original cassette that went in the mixing desk!<\/u>), adding a number of additional tunes but losing a couple that one band member wasn\u2019t really happy with. The set features liner notes by\u00a0<u>Ugly Things<\/u>\u00a0magazine\u00a0and\u00a0<u>Grown Up Wrong! Records<\/u>\u2019 Dave Laing, some killer pix and flyers and repro\u2019s of the stunning\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Lipstick Killers<\/strong><strong>\u00a0posters designed by highly collectable Sydney poster artist\u00a0<u>John Foy<\/u>, alongside the previously mentioned\u00a0<u>Byron Coley<\/u>\u00a0piece.<\/p>\n<p>The double-CD includes also this and more, including a near complete live show recorded in Adelaide in 1978, some of which was released on a handmade cassette by members of the band in the mid-\u201880s (likely in very low double-digit or possibly even single-digit quantities) and a couple of the tracks of which appeared on a very limited run 45 also released by the band in later years. But a good chunk of it has never been heard, and it is wild.
