Armed with merely a shoestring budget and a crazy dream, the underground New York rocker remains an undeniable force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with somewhat limited activity,\u00a0<strong>The Compulsions<\/strong>\u2019 creative output never fails to hit like a nuclear bomb. For most artists in today\u2019s frivolous and forgettable music world, this would be laughable hyperbole. However, there\u2019s simply no denying the mountain of critical acclaim that\u2019s been heaped upon\u00a0<strong>Rob Carlyle &amp; The Compulsions<\/strong>\u00a0since Day One.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The Compulsions<\/strong>\u2019 newest release,\u00a0<strong><em>Ferocious<\/em><\/strong>, adds to a 17-year long rap sheet of wildly positive press. For example,\u00a0\u201cWhat Rock Was Like When It Was Considered Real\u201d (<strong>Underground Press<\/strong>), \u201cThink Early \u201870s\u00a0<strong>Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u00a0Transported To Present Day\u201d (<strong>Fear &amp; Loathing<\/strong>),\u00a0\u201cThe Rock &amp; Roll Record We Were Expecting And Craving\u201d (<strong>RPM Online<\/strong>),\u00a0and even \u201cI Prefer\u00a0<strong>Compulsions<\/strong>\u00a0Versions Of\u00a0<strong>Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u00a0Songs\u201d (<strong>Get Ready To Rock<\/strong>). Combined with ratings such as \u201c10 Out Of 10\u201d (<strong>Powerplay Magazine<\/strong>) and \u201c9 Out Of 10\u201d (<strong>Vive Le Rock<\/strong>),\u00a0and it\u2019s hard to describe\u00a0<strong><em>Ferocious<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0as anything less than a rock \u2019n\u2019 roll masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em>Ferocious<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was released on November 13, 2020 via\u00a0<strong>Compulsions Records<\/strong>\u00a0and now, seven months later, an accompanying video has suddenly been unleashed on the unsuspecting public. Here\u2019s what\u00a0<strong>Rob<\/strong>\u00a0had to say about the vid for \u201cBand Of Thieves,\u201d which features many of the heavies who performed on\u00a0<strong><em>Ferocious<\/em><\/strong>, including ex-Gunner,\u00a0<strong>Ron \u201cBumblefoot\u201d Thal<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>David Bowie<\/strong>\u00a0guitarist,\u00a0<strong>Earl Slick<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe studio footage you\u2019re about to see has been on my phone for the last four or five years. Good thing I didn\u2019t drop it in the toilet, because now the video that\u2019s been playing in my head can finally become a reality \u2013 and thanks to my editor friend,\u00a0<strong>Anthony Marinelli<\/strong>, it\u2019s even better than I imagined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OZZBKVoobno?start=1&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The track, \u201cBand Of Thieves,\u201d and the video were both influenced by the\u00a0<strong>Road Warrior<\/strong>\u00a0films, as\u00a0<strong>Rob<\/strong>\u00a0explained to Australia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>The Rockpit<\/strong>\u00a0in his track-by-track breakdown of\u00a0<strong><em>Ferocious<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor \u2018Band Of Thieves,\u2019 I deliberately kept the lyrics kinda vague, so you can\u2019t tell if I\u2019m singing about a marauding motorcycle gang or a rock \u2018n\u2019 roll band. \u2018Band Of Thieves\u2019 is inspired by the soundtrack to\u00a0<strong><em>Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Junkie XL<\/strong>. It\u2019s funny because there\u2019s the monster double-neck guitar player in\u00a0<strong><em>Fury Road<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and this song features\u00a0<strong>Bumblefoot<\/strong>\u00a0on monster double-neck guitar!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also appearing in the video are local luminaries and frequent\u00a0<strong>Compulsions<\/strong>\u00a0collaborators: drummer\u00a0<strong>Brian Delaney<\/strong>\u00a0(ex-<strong>New York Dolls<\/strong>), bassist\u00a0<strong>Alec Morton<\/strong>\u00a0(ex-<strong>Raging Slab<\/strong>), guitarist\u00a0<strong>Hugh Pool<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>New York Blues Hall Of Fame<\/strong>), keyboardist\u00a0<strong>Andrew Sherman<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Butter Music + Sound<\/strong>), and producer\u00a0<strong>Ken Rich<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Grand Street Recording<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI remember when\u00a0<strong>Ken<\/strong>\u00a0played me the first mix of \u2018Band Thieves.\u2019 It felt like my teeth had been kicked in,\u201d recalls\u00a0<strong>Carlyle<\/strong>. \u201cWhich is exactly what we were going for.
