\"\"<\/a>The \u2018Salvador Dali of rock n roll\u2019 is back. Was it really only last year that David Ryder Prangley released \u2018Black Magic And True Love\u2019? I\u2019ve played it so regularly, it seems like it must be longer. From Rachel Stamp to Sister Witch and all points in between, he\u2019s cast a singular figure. \u201cHe puts the glam in Mid-Glamorgan\u201d, as Simon Price said. David Ryder Prangley remains outside of time, and his music is all the better for it. He should, of course, be famous, and filthy rich. Nevertheless, he is a star.<\/p>\n

\u2018In The Palace Of Dead Stars\u2019 croons darkly, an apparent homage to an old Star Trek episode. Oddly, I watched them all again recently, so this seems to fit the mood. \u2018Hello\u2019 is the first single, you may have seen the video already. While not perhaps an obvious choice for a single, it could only be D.R.P, the guitars sounding as sleazy as ever.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Sweet Heartbreaker\u2019 is a brazen chunk of 70s riffage. I\u2019ve never really liked KISS, but this was how I thought they should sound, if they were actually as good as they think they are. Now THIS is a single.<\/p>\n

An underrated guitarist, for sure, I love his choice of tones throughout the album. And an underrated songwriter, as \u2018Never Grow Up\u2019 proves his versatility. The light touch on the piano, a beautiful tune.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Saint David Of The Bleeding Heart\u2019 reads like a lament to the artist\u2019s doomed soul, complete with a towering solo. \u2018Song For A Witch\u2019 is, er, self explanatory and suitably ethereal. \u2018Dreaming Spires And Crystal Steeples\u2019 could easily have been a Tyrannosaurus Rex title, but sounds more like one of Donovan\u2019s more inspired moments. \u201cFlutey as fuck\u201d, I believe our Mr Hayward would say. A compliment, of course.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Heart Full Of Love, Head Full Of Poison\u2019 brings back the raunch, and I can forgive D.R.P for nicking his own lyrics here (see \u2018Captain Sugar\u2019). It would be a great double A-side with \u2018Black Magic\u2026\u2019 for some hip-shaking glam stomping. \u2018Hey Stargazer\u2019 ends things on a gentler note, a piano led song of sci-fi visions, but once again with a beautiful solo.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is certainly a similar album to \u2018Black Magic\u2026\u2019, which is hardly surprising, but, if anything, the choice of track list is better, with light and shade, and I might even prefer it. Given that \u2018Black Magic\u2026\u2019 was one of last year\u2019s best albums (based on how many times I\u2019ve played it), that\u2019s quite a surprise. I\u2019m really pleased that I preordered it. July is looking up\u2026<\/p>\n
