\"\"<\/a>Consistently underrated, The Boys remain one of the best bands of their generation. I have to thank my mate Charley here, as I\u2019d never heard of them until he played me \u2018Alternative Chartbusters\u2019 in about 1988. Always a man of impeccable taste. This compilation album sees previously unreleased songs, original mixes and live\/acoustic versions, so let\u2019s dive in.<\/p>\n

\u2018See You Later\u2019 is a pleasantly hectic original mix from \u201979, and \u2018Terminal Love\u2019 is an original mix, their first with a producer. Certainly tighter, but never knowingly slick. Radio-friendly in the best way. \u2018You Can Give It\u2019, written by Matt Dangerfield\u2019s brother Albert, recorded in \u201978, was previously on the \u2018Odds And Sods\u2019 compilation, but certainly deserves wider recognition.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018I Love Me\u2019, with Kid on lead vocals, is the original recording from the \u2018Junk\u2019 sessions, and \u2018Rue Morgue\u2019 is another original mix, sounding punchy and energetic. \u2018Walk My Dog\u2019 was recorded in \u201980 at the Marquee studios for the session that saw \u2018You Better Move On\u2019 chosen as the single.<\/p>\n

Their recent \u2018Punk Rock Menopause\u2019 album gets included with \u2018Punk Rock Girl\u2019, not really sounding out of place on here. \u2018Waiting For The Lady\u2019 is the original \u201979 mix, rather than the one chosen for \u2018To Hell With The Boys\u2019. To my ears it sounds great, so who knows what the difference was. The mighty \u2018Brickfield Nights\u2019 is represented here in acoustic form from \u201996, to fine effect.<\/p>\n

\u2018Jimmy Brown\u2019 is from the Marquee \u201980 session, complete with Marquee receptionist on backing vocals, \u2018Flies\u2019 is from the \u201978 Rockfield session, while a brisk \u2018T.C.P\u2019 was recorded live in China from 2015. If you don\u2019t have any of The Boys\u2019 albums yet, this is a good place to start. Though, be warned, it can be addictive, and you may be asking the vinyl fairy for some extra funds.<\/p>\n
