As lockdown eases, who better to soundtrack our new-found freedom?<\/p>\n<p>Seizing on their moment in the spotlight,\u00a0<strong>Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes\u00a0<\/strong>share their new single\u00a0<strong>\u2018Sticky\u2019<\/strong>, which has just received its first play courtesy of\u00a0<strong>Daniel P Carter\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0<strong>Radio 1<\/strong>. The single launches their eagerly anticipated new album, also titled\u00a0<strong>\u2018Sticky\u2019<\/strong>, which will be released on\u00a0<strong>October 15th<\/strong>. It builds on the momentum generated by their recent single,<a href=\"https:\/\/sonicpr.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=22b8cece1ceb580aeae1d78f3&amp;id=de16fdaf41&amp;e=d9ea72d2b6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<strong>\u2018My Town\u2019<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0featuring\u00a0<strong>Joe Talbot<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>IDLES<\/strong>, which is the biggest of their career to date and was\u00a0<strong>B-listed<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0<strong>Radio 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Punching out of the speakers with a new directness and immediacy, the single\u00a0<strong>\u2018Sticky\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0provides a flavour of what to expect from the album. It\u2019s a shark-sharp-shock of visceral punk fury, as the snarling soul of\u00a0<strong>Carter\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>vehement voice transports us to the sweltering, closing time madness of a city after dark. He paints a scene of growing paranoia, desperately looking to delve into any vice to counteract the existential despair of feeling\u00a0<em>\u201cmidnight blue.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0But there\u2019s a sardonic, horrorshow humour at play too as he spits,\u00a0<em>\u201cI\u2019m no vampire but I want your blood.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Carter\u00a0<\/strong>commented,\u00a0<em>\u201c\u2018Sticky\u2019 is about that moment where you\u2019re drunk at a bus stop at 3AM. You know there are no more buses, but you sit there anyway because you\u2019re too fucked to figure out your options. Your kebab is on the floor, there\u2019s a Stella in your pocket, and you\u2019re woken up by a dirty little fox eating your shoes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the perfect introduction to a record that breaks out of lockdown.\u00a0 Produced by guitarist\u00a0<strong>Dean Richardson<\/strong>\u00a0for the first time, it solidifies the pair as one of the most exciting partnerships in British punk rock.\u00a0<strong>Carter<\/strong>\u00a0sounds like an untamed force of nature, embodying the impish menace of\u00a0<strong>Keith Flint<\/strong>\u00a0one minute and\u00a0<strong>Sid Vicious<\/strong>\u00a0the next.\u00a0 Alongside\u00a0<strong>Richardson<\/strong>, they\u2019ve crafted a record which wastes no time in hitting hard: not a single song hits the four-minute barrier, and few even hit three.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Sticky\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>is the sonic eruption of a year-plus of suppressed energy. While it\u2019s an escapist experience, recent reality is never too far away. It\u2019s there in<strong>\u00a0\u2018Go Get A Tattoo\u2019<\/strong>, which was inspired by\u00a0<strong>Carter\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>experience of having to shut his first London based tattoo parlour,\u00a0<strong>Rose of Mercy<\/strong>, almost immediately after it opened.\u00a0 It\u2019s just as present in\u00a0<strong>\u2018My Town\u2019<\/strong>, a suburban vignette of society\u2019s collective mental health quickly unravelling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carter<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Richardson\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>vision is augmented by the mob of underdogs and outsiders who join them.\u00a0 As well as\u00a0<strong>Joe Talbot<\/strong>, queer, underground electro-punk sensation\u00a0<strong>Lynks<\/strong>\u00a0complements\u00a0<strong>Carter\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0attack with a double-dose of surreal savagery on\u00a0<strong>\u2018Bang Bang\u2019\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>\u2018Get A Tattoo\u2019<\/strong>, while<strong>\u00a0Cassyette\u00a0<\/strong>brings a provocative punch to the sleazy rock \u2018n\u2019 roll of\u00a0<strong>\u2018Off With His Head\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0 By the time\u00a0<strong>Primal Scream\u2019s Bobby Gillespie<\/strong>\u00a0emerges on the closing\u00a0<strong>\u2018Original Sin\u2019<\/strong>, his breathy voice feels like salvation for the transgressions that preceded it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carter<\/strong>\u00a0sums it up succinctly:\u00a0<em>\u201cSomeone described it to me as \u2018they felt their youth\u2019 when they were listening to the record. When you make albums, those are the ones you want to make. Nostalgic, but classic.
