Charged with helming the soundtrack for Liam Neeson\u2019s upcoming\u00a0June 25\u00a0Netflix thriller\u00a0<i>The Ice Road<\/i>, the visionary label founder wanted a rocking\u00a0\u2018psycho-billy\u2019\u00a0track to anchor an eclectic collection of songs sampling the American roots music tableau. Talking\u00a0to the full-tilt bass player and songwriter about a dream collaboration between Sixx, Rob Zombie and Zombie\u00a0guitarist\u00a0John 5\u00a0possibly writing\u00a0and executive producing\u00a0a song for the film, Sixx asked Borchetta to send him an example of the kind of song he\u00a0envisioned for the soundtrack. Johnny Cash\u2019s thumping \u201cI\u2019ve Been Everywhere\u201d was already earmarked as a hopeful to be\u00a0included in the film as it really synthesized everything the film was about. Nikki listened and then sent it to Zombie. Both rockers felt the iconic Cash track was the perfect song for them to record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\">Sixx called Borchetta back and said,\u00a0\u201c<i>Why don\u2019t we just cut this?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\">The guys were all in on the song that name-checks cities across the nation \u2013 and Zombie had the vocal gnarl to bring that weathered,\u00a0long-haul\u00a0tone to the song that spent 22 weeks at\u00a0No.\u00a01 for Hank Snow in 1962. Opening with an ominous audible cloud and industrial noise, a hellish train beat emerges from the lumbering aural wave. Zombie\u2019s voice slices through the ballast, authoritative\u00a0and\u00a0churlish. Commanding the ride that begins \u201c&#8221;I was totin&#8217; my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road,&#8221; his guttural delivery morphs Cash\u2019s intensity with drummer Tommy\u00a0Clufetos\u2019\u00a0crashing attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\">Laughing, Sixx says of the L.A. Rats and their affinity for this song of hard traveling, \u201cIsn\u2019t it ironic?\u00a0This song that\u2019s so\u00a0Rock &amp;\u00a0Roll, that\u2019s\u00a0<i>so<\/i>\u00a0Country, that\u2019s so\u00a0<i>all\u00a0<\/i>of it \u2013 it\u2019s the traveling circus, city to city, riff to riff, greasy cheeseburger, rinse and repeat. It\u2019s poetry based on reality \u2013 and it\u2019s something every one of us has lived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\">\u201cWe wanted to bring that fire that\u2019s Johnny Cash, but it\u2019s also\u00a0<i>how<\/i>\u00a0do we flip it? So\u00a0John 5 and I\u00a0brought in this Zeppeliny half-time thing from the beginning with Rob talking on the outro. But I also did some stuff (that suggested the original) like those big walks through the guitar parts upright player style, which is something I don\u2019t do in\u00a0M\u00f6tley\u00a0or\u00a0Sixx:A.M. We all had that freedom to go other places, and we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image001-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16197 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image001-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"604\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image001-2.jpg 604w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image001-2-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 604px) 100vw, 604px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\">Collaborating for the track, the union of Zombie, Sixx,\u00a0Zombie guitarist\u00a0John 5, who was raised on\u00a0\u201cHee Haw\u201d and Black Sabbath\/Ted Nugent\/Alice Cooper ringer Clufetos\u00a0created a chemistry that was more than the sum of their parts. With a frisson that comes from equal parts rebellion, aggression, fierce musicianship and deep respect for the song, \u201cI\u2019ve Been Everywhere\u201d embodies the intensity of\u00a0<i>The Ice Road<\/i>\u00a0and Neeson\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4740125315MsoNormal\">\u201cWe all grew up thinking great bands don\u2019t follow the rules or drive the speed limit,\u201d Sixx explains. \u201cWhen I called Rob up, he said, \u2018I\u2019ve\u00a0<i>always\u00a0<\/i>loved Johnny Cash, and I\u2019ve always loved this song.\u2019 I think that\u2019s what we all share: we all play live and know there\u2019s this magic (that comes from that); there\u2019s the swagger you can feel, that energy you can smell.
