The full ten-minute version of\u00a0\u2018U.S. North,\u2019<\/b>\u00a0the longest Strummer\/Jones song ever recorded, is available on\u00a0\u2018Joe Strummer 001,\u2019<\/b>\u00a0the first compilation to span Joe Strummer\u2019s career outside of his\u00a0recordings with The Clash.<\/div>\n

\u2018U.S. North<\/b>\u2019 was originally recorded, but not used in the movie, directed by Robert Frank (\u2018The Americans\u2019 photographic book) and Rudy Wurlitzer, \u2019Candy Mountain\u2019.<\/div>\n

\u2018U.S. North\u2019<\/b>\u00a0was recorded at Redan Recorders Studios, just behind Whiteley\u2019s in Queensway West London, in October 1986. Talking in 1987 Joe said: \u201cMick came forward with an amazing tune. It was funded by Canadian money, the last thing we should have done was call it\u00a0\u2018U.S. North.\u2019<\/b>\u201d This was a very productive and globe-trotting four months for Joe which saw him re-unite with Mick Jones on 26th June (Mick\u2019s birthday), co-write 5 songs, co-produce (London), mix (New York) the Big Audio Dynamite album \u2018No. 10, Upping Street,\u2019 film \u2018Straight To Hell\u2019 in Spain and work on the soundtrack to \u2018Straight To Hell\u2019 also at Redan Studios.<\/div>\n

The archiving of this material and compiling of\u00a0\u2018Joe Strummer 001\u2019<\/b>\u00a0was overseen by Joe\u2019s widow Lucinda Tait and compilation producer and art director Robert Gordon McHarg III. All tracks were restored and mastered by Grammy Award winner Peter J. Moore at the E. Room in Toronto Canada.<\/div>\n
