Warehoused in the UK and stocking an array of Sub Pop goods (vinyl, CDs, and T-shirts), fans on this side of the pond who have long been suffering from outrageous (though totally real) shipping charges can finally rejoice!\u00a0As if opening Mega Mart 2 wasn\u2019t enough incredible news, Sub Pop is also announcing a 20th Anniversary remastered reissue of\u00a0The Shins<\/strong>‘ classic 2003\u00a0<\/strong>album\u00a0Chutes Too Narrow<\/strong><\/em>, featuring new, custom die cut artwork.\u00a0Chutes Too Narrow<\/em>, the band\u2019s heavily anticipated follow-up to their debut,\u00a0Oh, Inverted World<\/strong><\/em>, was recorded in\u00a0James Mercer<\/strong>\u2019s basement home studio, with later mixing assistance from\u00a0Phil Ek<\/strong>\u00a0(Built to Spill<\/strong>,\u00a0Modest Mouse<\/strong>,\u00a0David Cross<\/strong>,\u00a0Les Savy Fav<\/strong>, etc.). And, with 10 songs, clocking in at just over 30 minutes, the record is a brief yet entirely scintillating glimpse at chiming, reflective and perfectly skewed pop innovation. Chutes Too Narrow\u00a0<\/em>was released to widespread acclaim in 2003, garnering\u00a0Pitchfork<\/strong><\/em>\u2019s\u00a0Best New Music<\/strong>, four stars from\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/em>, and raves from\u00a0The New York Times<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0MOJO<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0The Village Voice<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0SPIN<\/strong><\/em>, and tons more. It subsequently made best-of-the-decade lists from\u00a0The AV Club<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0NME<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0Paste<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0Pitchfork<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Uncut<\/strong><\/em>.

Mercer says of\u00a0Chutes Too Narrow,\u00a0\u201cI was very aware at the time that I had struck gold with the first record, and it was unlikely to happen again. ‘Sophomore slump’\u00a0and all that. The pressure to prove myself as a viable writer had never been so pronounced. Midway through the mixing process, I realized one of the songs would not work,\u00a0so I stayed up after everyone went to bed and wrote \u2018Young Pilgrims.\u2019 And with Ek\u2019s help, it worked! Such a stressful but beautiful experience!\u201d
