You can\u2019t keep a good man down, and the Duracell bunny of positivity that is CJ Wildheart is back with a new solo album to improve your life. After the fury and anger of 2020s \u2018Siege\u2019, this is a collection of killer tunes that, while often ferocious, maintain a link to the melodies he\u2019s known for. And so it begins with \u2018Kick Down The Walls\u2019, the opening chord reminiscent of \u2018Sitting At Home\u2019 by the mighty Honeycrack, before launching into an anthemic chorus. \u201cWe\u2019re ready for the fight\u2026\u201d, and he still has a knack with a tasty middle eight. It\u2019s the little things that can transform a song into something special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Butterfingers\u2019 is just as infectious, whilst reminiscing of old days at the Marquee; \u201cmessing with our hair, getting ready for the night\u201d. You can almost taste the Hard Rock Hairspray. \u201cAre you ready, are you one of us?\u201d, wrapped around a simple but insistent melody. Lovely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Victoria\u2019 has a great, upfront bass line, made for pogoing, while \u2018All The Dough\u2019 and \u2018S.D.E\u2019 riff it up in a similar fashion to RFTC, and a similar high quality. This doesn\u2019t sound like an album made on a small budget, and Dave Draper has done a fantastic job throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Bad Decision\u2019 reminds me of the energy and riffs of Chris Catalyst, as I regularly spin his recent album. Another good guy, for sure. Having listened a few times now, it\u2019s \u2018Give The Dog A Bone\u2019 that really sticks in my head immediately, the chorus is classic CJ, from The Jellys onwards, and you will be playing it on repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Mr Angry\u2019 is two minutes of focussed fury, and \u2018All You Rude Boys\u2019 tackles the lecherous idiots in clubs and bars; \u201cyou\u2019ll never set that girl alight, cause she knows damn right that you talk too much and you\u2019re full of shite\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Shweinehund\u2019 is almost heavy Goth, set to a nursery rhyme tune, an unexpected turn. I wonder if he\u2019s heard Mr Catalyst\u2019s \u2018Robochrist\u2019 stuff? \u2018The Grass Is Greener\u2019 ends on a positive note; \u201chope, it glimmers in the distant light\u2026.on my own, it tastes so good alone\u201d. It certainly sounds like CJ is content with where he is right now. He\u2019s delivered a corker of an album. It pays to be a good guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
