Hot on the heels of last year\u2019s Ramones tribute, \u2018Basement Beat\u2019, Brad Marino returns with 10 new songs that, ideally, would have been the soundtrack to this summer. Still, it\u2019s a welcome return, and I can almost remember what the sun looks like whilst listening to another top notch collection of tunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it\u2019s the Slade-tinged title track, or the slide infused \u2018Up And Up\u2019, this is poptastic stuff. Crafting great power pop isn\u2019t easy, but Brad has a knack with it, and none is finer than \u2018Hung Up\u2019, with its Rickenbacker-friendly melody. You\u2019ll be \u201cooh\u201ding along in no time, perhaps due to it being one of two collaborations with Kurt Baker. They really are made for each other, musically speaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just listen to this and \u2018I\u2019m Broke\u2019 for the proof. Fingers crossed for a full album together, though they\u2019re obviously both busy; Kurt\u2019s \u2018Rock N Roll Club\u2019 being one of the best albums this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They both make it sound effortless, \u2018(She\u2019s) Doing Her Thing\u2019 settles in your head like an old friend, in a Flamin\u2019 Groovies style. \u2018Lucy\u2019 rattles by, complete with castanets, like Ramones on a sugar high. \u2018Looking Then\u2019 is worthy of Paul Collins, and Brad throws the kitchen sink at \u2018Another Sad And Lonely Night\u2019, but it pays off, with contributions from members of the \u201cNew England Mafia\u201d, Joe Queer and Geoff Palmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a no brainer, folks. If quality power pop is your bag, this needs to be in your collection. Big grins all round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
