That\u2019s why it\u2019s perhaps always best to \u201clive in the moment\u201d as you\u2019ll never know what\u2019s around the corner. You might just be putting on your biggest show ever when Sick Of It All play for you this spring, or you might be just about to celebrate 15 years together as a band. Yup it\u2019s all about the here and now folks and tonight is like a mini-Slugfest, but on tour, as four bands who have all played at south Wales\u2019s finest DIY free festival share a stage at Newport\u2019s finest DIY punk rock venue. Four bands, \u00a36 entrance fee\u2026bosh! How\u2019s that for living in the now?<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-medium\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4-1140x1520.jpg 1140w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-4.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Kicking things off are The Setbacks from Bath and the five-piece fair rattle through their set finishing off with a riotous rendition of \u2018Lulu\u2019s Leaving\u2019.\u00a0 The healthy-sized crowd loving every minute of tonight\u2019s starter for ten and I must admit it had been way too long since I last saw them live. Tracks like opener \u2018March\u2019, \u2018Anxiety\u2019 and (still my favourite track by the band) \u2018Fail Safe\u2019 positively bounce along, containing almost as much spring in their step as frontman Stan, who just doesn\u2019t stop. \u2018Big Business\u2019 is always how a Reset show ends and it\u2019s a middle finger to the corporate world we all live in. Talking of which, rumour has it that Sutton and Shov from the Reset have got the original Trigger McPoopshute line up back together for one last hurrah! Now a full year into being a quartet the band are currently recording album number five, and if tonight is anything to go by it\u2019s going to be their most ferocious slab of wax yet. \u2018Red Eyes And Black Kisses\u2019, Too Much is Never Enough\u2019 and \u2018Cool Kids\u2019 are all present and correct from the old trio days but it\u2019s the new cuts like (please note I may have these titles slightly incorrect) \u2018You\u2019re The One\u2019 and \u2018Right Thing\u2019 that positively hammer home why Deathtraps in this new expanded format truly are a mighty force to be reckoned with.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1-1140x855.jpg 1140w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cab-1.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s going to take a special kind of band to top the sonic fury of Deathtraps and thankfully Christmas (playing on a leap year day too, just to totally mess with my OCD mind) are just that band. Frontman Max has his shirt off and is in our faces before \u2018Wolfpack\u2019 has even had a chance to howl and throughout the band\u2019s 20 odd song set he\u2019s constantly in and out of the crowd cajoling those brave enough to stand in front of him to sing along with the band\u2019s incendiary back catalogue. He\u2019s such a blur of energy that even the Cab\u2019s normally Tonka truck strong vocal PA (this is a set up that withstood Clobber and Conservative Military Image on the same bill remember) gives up the ghost just ahead of \u2018Appetite for Selfdestruction\u2019 and with a shorter microphone cable attached and Max finally partially tethered the likes of \u2018Hot Nights in Saint Vandal\u2019 \u2018Nothing But&nbsp; A Handjob\u2019 and the immense \u2018Candy Me\u2019 all sound like firecrackers in the head.
