It\u2019s been a strange year. Just recently, I can\u2019t keep up with the great, new albums being released. I almost missed this one, the second long player from the boys from Berlin. While Giuda keep us waiting for their next album, M\u00e4sh have wasted no time in releasing potentially the boot boy glam album of 2024. It\u2019s a loose term, really, as while there are many similarities between the two bands, M\u00e4sh have their own flavour. They have the fun, infectious element of the early Giuda albums, but bring a touch of Dr Feelgood\u2019s mania as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the benign influence of the mighty Wilko Johnson can be heard on opening number \u2018Candy\u2019. If this doesn\u2019t get you moving, nothing will. And \u2018Beale Street\u2019, with added harmonica, is equally addictive, though the opening riff is straight from The Monkees. So far, so good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I Like It\u2019 couldn\u2019t be simpler, like The Stray Cats\u2019 \u2018Little Miss Prissy\u2019. The band are obviously having a ball playing the songs, and it rubs off. \u2018Endless\u2019 is probably closest to Giuda, two minutes of perfect glam pop, bursting with energy. \u2018Complication\u2019 and \u2018John and Maggie\u2019 wouldn\u2019t be out of place on a Slade album, and \u2018Rich Folks\u2019 also has that Canvey Island, driving rhythm, a real joy to hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00e4sh wear their influences with pride, but they keep it sounding fresh throughout, and the energy level is impressive. \u2018Tickin\u2019\u2019 brings a bit more boot boy muscle to the mix, and Giuda should be looking over their collective shoulder, after the patchy \u2018E.V.A\u2019 album. M\u00e4sh have the songs, the attitude and the enthusiasm for mass appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
