Then again, that\u2019s exactly why each new Wonk Unit record is such a unique event on the release calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wonk Unit - &quot;Rapidly Declining Dignity&quot; (Official Music Video)\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EOEPLjqIQrs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s been four years since \u2018Uncle Daddy\u2019 so \u2018Good Good Glad to Hear It\u2019 has been a long time coming, and the fact that it\u2019s being released in the run up to Christmas actually makes me feel like this year is perhaps going to be one the best in many a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s because Wonk Unit are a band that can connect with their audience on so many different levels, be it the rage of those opening trio of tunes the (debut single from the record \u2018Rapidly Declining Dignity\u2019, \u2018Now That I\u2019ve Grown Up\u2019 and \u2018Luxury Flats\u2019) or the fragile vulnerability of \u2018Overwhelmed\u2019 (the song about fatherhood), there is pretty much something for everyone on \u2018Good Good Glad to Hear It\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wonk Unit - &quot;Overwhelmed&quot; (Official Music Video)\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RTbvdDgfg-g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now settled as a six piece with guitarists Ryan and AJ along with drummer Max locking in with keyboardist Vez and Wonk Unit lifers Alex and Pwoison this time around the gang switch effortlessly from the country honk of \u2018Shiny Horses\u2019 to the double time synthy powerpop of \u2018The Thickest Skin\u2019 before the almost music hall lament of \u2018Complicated Girl\u2019 brings to mind Madness at their chart bothering best, and all within the space of eight minutes on a record packed full of &nbsp;Wonkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Longtime co-producer\/engineer Andy Brook once again works his EQ magic within the groves of \u2018Good Good Glad to Hear It\u2019 helping the band to retain an underlying pop edge on tunes as they flip between musical styles as the jaunty cockney knees up of \u2018True To Who I Am\u2019 followed by my favourite song on the record \u2018The Oldest Chiche\u2019 fully illustrates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In saying that, I get a new favourite song with each new listen to \u2018Good Good Glad to Hear It\u2019, so just like with the last few Wonk Unit LPs there\u2019s more than just the mosh pit bangers for you to get your teeth into, and in album closer \u2018Stage Fright\u2019 the band have written perhaps their most audacious tune to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I said at the top of this review there\u2019s no one quite like Wonk Unit, now what I wouldn\u2019t give to hear St Winifred\u2019s School Choir singing that, at this time of year, eh? Perhaps we could have them doing it on the next Wonk album \u2013 what do you think Alex?
