Isn\u2019t it a treat when you discover a \u201cnew\u201d band via online friends? Especially when they really tick your boxes. So, may I introduce you to punk pop duo, Human Toys? They seem to have quite a following here in France. I mentioned them to my bandmate Mickey, who already knew their stuff, typically a man of good taste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you get your kicks from short, snappy Ramones-style pop tunes, then look no further. Poup\u00e9e, on vocals and theremin and Jon Von on guitar and vocals bring you 13 new songs that grab your attention as they fly by. 2025 seems to be the year of great, short albums, but, as ever, it\u2019s quality over quantity\/time. You just know that Dee Dee would approve of \u2018Devil\u2019s Night\u2019 and \u2018Emma Peel Explosion\u2019. There\u2019s no time to think before \u2018Generation Shit\u2019 takes off, not unlike Cyanide Pills, and throughout the theremin does what Pete Shelley did so well, adding simple, addictive melodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another similarity to, say, \u2018Rocket To Russia\u2019, is that if you love one song, you\u2019ll love them all. It\u2019s been done to death, but it\u2019s not easy to write short, catchy songs, and the Toys really have nailed it. In fact, there\u2019s no chaff on this or their debut, \u2018Spin To Win\u2019, so I felt compelled to buy \u2018At The Poor Cow\u2019 on vinyl (no CD available). As it\u2019s from the EU, I\u2019m not clobbered with 14\u20ac customs tax! Rant over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Breakin\u2019 The Law\u2019 isn\u2019t the Judas Priest song (sorry Mr Hayward), and whether it\u2019s \u2018Go, Go, Alco\u2019 or \u2018Human Zoo\u2019, your feet will be itching to get bopping. It\u2019s not big, it\u2019s not clever, and it\u2019s all the better for it. It\u2019s pure fun with great tunes, and there is a hint of The Rezillos here and there. I don\u2019t know if there\u2019s bass when they play live, but there\u2019s plenty on the record, allowing the likes of \u2018I\u2019m Sick Of You\u2019 to have the required clout. If Spotify is good for anything, you can listen to it and then order the album. What are you waiting for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
