{"id":2759,"date":"2018-12-09T17:00:34","date_gmt":"2018-12-09T17:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/?p=2759"},"modified":"2018-12-08T14:24:50","modified_gmt":"2018-12-08T14:24:50","slug":"that-was-the-week-that-was-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/?p=2759","title":{"rendered":"That Was the Week That Was"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a week that was overshadowed and pretty much dominated by one thing and that was the sad and sudden passing of the incredible\u00a0talent that was Pete Shelley.\u00a0 It seems everyone throughout social media had a picture and\/or a nice touching story about meeting or working with Pete who passed away at the age of 63 at home in Estonia of a suspected\u00a0Heart Attack.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"855\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CHA_Kxwf77U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It was warming to see that even the BBC found it fitting to round off the day&#8217;s news with the reporting of his passing. It seemed that only when passing many people realise what an impact someone has on pop culture.\u00a0 Sure Pete was never a style icon but man could he write a bittersweet song he spoke to the lovestruck teen who wasn&#8217;t part of the cool club and outsiders everywhere were affected as well as many up and coming musicians who fitted the remit of his songs\u00a0 bands who later took his influence and turned it into something\u00a0all together bigger.\u00a0 BAnds such as Nirvana\u00a0who took Buzzcocks on tour to audiences they could only dream of pulling which gave them a new lease of life.\u00a0 Bands such as Green Day wouldn&#8217;t, in turn, have made the music they did if it wasn&#8217;t for Pete and his tunes &#8211; in fact, he wrote dozens of them quite literally he was the undisputed king of punk rock 45&#8217;s enjoying numerous forays into the top 40 as well as the soundtrack to many a film and tv advert looking for a catchy, snappy immediate\u00a0tune Shelly had em by the bucketload.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2760 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault-1140x641.jpg 1140w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/maxresdefault.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As recently as this past summer Buzzcocks were easily one of the\u00a0standout bands from the Rebellion festival weekend where they understood that having seventy minutes to play it was a case of 1-2-3-4 hit after hit which they usually delivered at ear-splitting\u00a0volumes. Taken way to early Pete&#8217;s passing is monumental and a real loss to fans globally and our thoughts go out to his bandmates, crew and family at what must be a very difficult time.
