The hard-charging title track that\u2019s been lighting up crowds at the band\u2019s shows for the last several months is out now. The album wastes no time letting the listener know where its heart is, with its title track and mission statement dropping nods to Lou Reed (&#8220;Rock \u2019n\u2019 Roll Animal gonna come your way!\u201d) and Iggy and the Stooges (\u201cThe agenda is yeah to Search and Destroy\u201d) and an homage to David Bowie (\u201cIt\u2019s a Rock \u2019n\u2019 Roll Suicide\u201d) following a few songs later on \u201cPartners In Crime.\u201d This is a man, a band and a record that wear their influences proudly while creating timeless anthems and ballads that both chart Social Distortion\u2019s path forward and celebrate its storied past: \u201cTonight\u201d and \u201cThe Way Things Were\u201d are emotionally charged reminiscences in the vein of classics like \u201cStory of My Life\u201d from the band\u2019s eponymous 1990 breakthrough and \u201cI Was Wrong\u201d from 1996\u2019s White Light, White Heat, White Trash, the latter containing a potent distillation of the Social D ethos: &#8220;I wrote a song with a stolen riff \/ If you ain\u2019t got a song you ain\u2019t got shit.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-produced by Ness and Dave Sardy, and featuring guest appearances from&nbsp;<strong>Benmont Tench<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Lucinda Williams<\/strong>&nbsp;and collaborative cover art by Ness and Shepard Fairey, &#8216;Born To Kill&#8217; is the latest installment in a remarkable catalog that spans nearly three generations, including Mommy\u2019s Little Monster (1983), Prison Bound (1988), the RIAA gold-certified Social Distortion (1990) and Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell (1992), White Light, White Heat, White Trash (1996), Sex, Love and Rock \u2019n\u2019 Roll (2004), and Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (2011).
