{"id":4879,"date":"2019-04-15T05:00:53","date_gmt":"2019-04-15T05:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/?p=4879"},"modified":"2019-04-11T11:03:51","modified_gmt":"2019-04-11T11:03:51","slug":"today-is-joey-ramone-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/?p=4879","title":{"rendered":"Today Is Joey Ramone Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ramones79-193-1730072_preview.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4881 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ramones79-193-1730072_preview.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"979\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ramones79-193-1730072_preview.jpg 598w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Ramones79-193-1730072_preview-183x300.jpg 183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/a>Jeffrey Ross Hyman better known as Joey Ramone passed away at the age of 49.\u00a0 His fight against\u00a0lymphatic cancer ended on this day after a long a widely reported battle.\u00a0 Hyman was born in Queens on the 19th of May 1951.\u00a0Joey was born with a parasitic twin, the twin was surgically removed however he did have a sibling, brother Mickey Leigh.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His musical journey began when he played the drums from the age of 13 before picking up an acoustic guitar and then moving onto vocals and the rest, as they say, is history as he performed all over the world playing thousands of shows to millions of people.\u00a0 He loved the Beatles, The Who, and the stones as much as he loved 50&#8217;s girl groups and The Ramones managed to do a fine job of mashing up all those influences throughout their iconic career.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Joey has a street named after him in NYC but the band managed to play their farewell show in California.\u00a0 His iconic hunched form with tinted shades ripped jeans converse\u00a0shoes and the black leather jacket has been copied a million times over as has his band&#8217;s music. He will forever be remembered in connection with CBGB and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of Ramones records as well as two solo albums before he passed away as well as being immortalised\u00a0in the Simpsons and even got a speaking part as well as singing the Spiderman theme song doesn&#8217;t get cooler than that folks.\u00a0 Rest In Peace Joey Ramone one of the finest frontmen ever in music &#8211; period. Iconic punk rockers amazing image &#8211; even more amazing catalogue of songs and albums &#8211; incredible\u00a0characters &#8211; dysfunctional, goofy, awkward, enigmatic,\u00a0influential.\u00a0 Lucky for us there has been something of an avalanche\u00a0of reissues, bonus material, box sets, books, DVD&#8217;s. The Ramones will forever be remembered and rightly so.
