\u201c\u2019Don\u2019t Look Behind You\u2019 was truly inspired by a sense of peace that washed over me after a few months of turning off the TV and social media,\u201d says\u00a0McKagan. \u201cIt was also inspired by the sense of real community I felt while traveling and talking to people around the world on\u00a0tour during this somewhat tenuous time. This period of\u00a0sturm\u00a0und\u00a0drang\u00a0will indeed pass. The song seemed to be the final summation that rang loudly from the topics on\u00a0Tenderness.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe recording sessions for this album also saw us\u00a0re-assemble, for the first time since the\u00a0Use Your Illusion\u00a0recordings, The Suicide Horn Section, featuring my brother Matt\u00a0McKagan\u00a0on trombone, the great Chuck Findlay on trumpet, and the impossible Brian Scanlon on sax,\u201d he adds. \u201cOn the very last day of recording, they came down to the studio and laid down the amazing horn lines for\u00a0\u2018Don\u2019t Look Behind\u00a0You.\u2019\u00a0I\u2019ll never forget the culmination of Matt and The Suicide Horns mixed with the Waters singing group sending this song and album out, as Shooter and I just watched it all with\u00a0goosebumps.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re becoming divided at a time when we need each other most,\u201d says\u00a0McKagan. \u201cWhen huge industries get replaced because of modernization, it\u2019s time to retrain and bolster up those who get swept aside. Homelessness and drug addiction are avoidable in this country if we come together and get private and public cogs turning together in a positive direction. We\u00a0can\u00a0at least\u00a0try\u00a0to tackle mental illness while we\u2019re at it. But alas, we stump and lie, point fingers and divide. We\u2019re way better than this.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that in mind,\u00a0McKagan\u00a0has created a campaign that puts the album\u2019s themes into action and he\u2019s inviting fans to join him in an effort to give support to organizations doing great work.\u00a0Those include\u00a0Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission<\/a>,\u00a0320 Changes Direction<\/a>, and\u00a0To Write Love on Her Arms<\/a>, among others.
