{"id":7486,"date":"2019-08-14T05:00:27","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T05:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/?p=7486"},"modified":"2019-08-12T15:54:13","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T15:54:13","slug":"redd-kross-release-cover-of-classic-sparks-song","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/?p=7486","title":{"rendered":"Redd Kross release cover of classic Sparks song"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, California legends Redd Kross have released \u201cWhen Do I Get To Sing &#8216;My Way&#8217;\u201d the latest single to be lifted from their much-anticipated album\u00a0<em>Beyond The Door\u00a0<\/em>out August 23rd on Merge Records.\u00a0On \u201cWhen Do I Get To Sing \u201cMy Way\u2019 Redd Kross reinterpret the beloved Sparks single with a new blast of fresh hooks and hum-able melodies.<\/p>\n<p>About the cover,\u00a0<strong>Sparks&#8217;\u00a0Ron Mael<\/strong>\u00a0says,\u00a0<em>&#8220;Redd Kross has always been one of my favorite bands and that opinion was cemented when I heard their amazing version of our &#8216;When Do I Get To Sing &#8216;My Way.&#8217; To do a version of that song with a completely different musical approach from the original while keeping every ounce of the original sentiment was an amazing feat. I love it!&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;When Do I Get To Sing &#8216;My Way'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7G1AQuHPBTc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Beyond the Door<\/em>\u00a0can be pre-ordered now on CD, digitally, and on limited-edition opaque purple Peak Vinyl in the Merge store.\u00a0Redd Kross have also announced a massive US tour with the Melvins which kicks off on September 3rd in San Diego and includes shows in major markets including Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and more.<\/p>\n<p><em>Beyond the Door<\/em>\u00a0is an album inspired by the band\u2019s\u00a0<em>\u201ctotal commitment to having the best f*cking time we can have while we\u2019re all still here\u201d<\/em>\u00a0(what they like to call \u201cThe Party\u201d). Musically, it\u2019s guitars, bass, and drums topped with a generous portion of sweet vocal melodies often delivered with an ambiguous edge.\u00a0The album marks Redd Kross\u2019 most collaborative record to date. Steven describes this evolution: \u201cJeff is still very much the driving force behind the compositions, but with more help from me than ever. Jeff and I haven\u2019t shared this much of the writing and singing since Born Innocent in 1981.\u201d Guitarist Jason Shapiro and drummer Dale Crover (Melvins, OFF!) are longtime members of the Redd Kross live band, but this album marks the pair\u2019s recorded debut with the group. Mixed in Los Angeles by Steven McDonald,\u00a0<em>Beyond the Door<\/em>\u00a0includes notable guest appearances from Anna Waronker (That Dog), Ger\u00e9 Fennelly, Buzz Osborne (Melvins), and Josh Klinghoffer.<a href=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mail-19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7487 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mail-19.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"649\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mail-19.jpg 900w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mail-19-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rpmonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/mail-19-768x554.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the surface, the album title is a playful reference to an Italian horror film the McDonald brothers watched as children, a loose rip-off of both The Exorcist and Rosemary\u2019s Baby that stars Juliet Mills of \u201970s television program Nanny and the Professor. But like all things Redd Kross, it would be a sad injustice to stop digging there.
