\"\"<\/a>It\u2019s been nine long years since Fabienne Delsol\u2019s third solo album, \u2018On My Mind\u2019, and I had become resigned to the idea that she had left music behind her. Which, considering she had seemed carved from my francophone dreams, was hard to accept. She has graced us with three albums of 60s inspired beat and psyche pop, as if visiting us briefly to improve our dull world.<\/p>\n

Mais, non! Monsieur Daley m\u2019a dit qu\u2019elle va sortir un nouveau album. And \u2018Four\u2019 is all I could have dreamed of. While maintaining the influence of a young Fran\u00e7oise Hardy, Fabienne\u2019s sound is maturing to slightly darker places. Back again at Toerag Studios, but now co-producing with Luke Oldfield, this is the sound of Fabienne in control of her muse.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018See How They Run\u2019, with fuzz-guitar melody, brings us back to where she left off. Like a lost, ephemeral classic. \u2018Ladder\u2019s acoustic intro gives way to an organ-fuelled groove, which also gives \u2018Door Knob\u2019 a more sinister tone, though it still swings. I think Rudi Protrudi would approve.<\/p>\n

Another catchy original \u2018So Many Could Not\u2019 is followed by the first choice of cover version, \u2018When I Awake\u2019. Yes, the Quo tune is pared back but retains its quirky charm. \u2018The Face\u2019 by the Human Beinz is an inspired choice, but the standout cover is Fran\u00e7oise Hardy\u2019s \u2018J\u2019ai Fait De Lui Un R\u00eave\u2019. If I still had hairs on the back of my neck, they\u2019d be standing up.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ll Never Be Lonely Again\u2019 takes a Beatley, meandering path, while \u2018Hurtin\u2019 Kind\u2019 ends the album on a groovy note. If, like me, you feel like you were born in the wrong time, and beat-pop-psyche nuggets are your thing, I can\u2019t recommend this album enough. The world is a better place with Fabienne Delsol in it. Merci, Fabienne, mille fois.<\/p>\n
