Sid Vicious ‘Sid Lives!’  A limited edition 2LP in blood-splattered coloured vinyl for the UK’s RSD Black Friday. A double-LP of four of Sid’s last ever shows, featuring 39 tracks. Sure, the quality is mixing desk minus and I’m sure the purists have already called the punk rock police on me for daring to even give platitudes to such a record. But, and that’s a bit, but it is so much more a document of the end of Sid and what might have been sure, there might be some Steve Dior shenanigans with overdubs, but the original material isn’t the best quality anyway. Be grown up and put that to one side. What I will say is this is a fascinating document of a snapshot in time about one of the most iconic punks of the first wave, and a moment in time that is a fascinating story, regardless of it being a cartoon or done to death, it’s still a fascinating story.

The gatefold sleeve has a comprehensive, detailed 8,000-word Sid timeline together with Steve Dior’s eyewitness Sid story. and whilst the font might be small fo rold punk rockers eyesight these days its well worth a read, and let’s be honest the band he assembled were world class and had they been able to mature or ferment, they might well have come up with some remarkable music becuase one fact is that Sid could hold a tune much better than he could play th eBass guitar and the likes of Nolan holding down the rhythm in the engine room he was in exceptionally good hands. Killer Kane might have been the only Bass player to hold a candle to Vicious. The songs they chose to cover were real top pop picks, and whatever the purists say about old Sidney, he had exceptional taste in music.

You get thirty-nine tracks for your RSD bucks, and the essay on the inner sleeve sadly just twelve days after these shows in NYC, Nancy’s life was ended in mystery and Sid’s life was thrown into the blender, which he never recovered from. As a snapshot of time and a record of what might have been, this is well worth having. A shambolic ‘Something Else’ married to a snotty ‘Belsen Was A Gas’ is worth it alone. Ramones, Stooges and Thunders tunes a plenty were the staple of Sid’s repertoire and what a trio of bands to borrow from. Rest in peace, Sid. May this be the definitive record of a moment in time. Now to barricade myself in before the punk police arrive.

BMG Announces Reissues of Four Classic Gary Moore albums on vinyl and CD

BMG and Gary Moore will reissue four beloved titles from the legendary guitarist’s catalogue Ian 2026: the studio albums Old New Ballads Blues (2006), Close As You Get (2007), and Bad For You Baby (2008), along with the live album Live at Bush Hall (2014, recorded in 2007). 

All titles will be available on CD from 27th February, with each release also presented on double vinyl, arriving 24th April.

Old New Ballads Blues, Gary Moore’s 15th solo album, continued his exploration of the blues with a mix of classic blues tracks—written by legends such as Otis Rush and Willie Dixon—and his own original compositions. The album also features Don Airey on keyboards.

One year later, Close As You Get was released, reuniting Moore with his former Thin Lizzy bandmate, drummer Brian Downey, who performed on every track. Stripped down and raw, the album finds Moore delving as close to purist, traditional blues as he had ever ventured.

Released in 2008, Bad For You Baby is Moore’s seventeenth solo album and the final studio album released during his lifetime. It leans toward the hard-rock-infused blues style he had embraced in previous years and includes covers of two songs strongly associated with Muddy Waters. The album also features standout collaborations with Cassie Taylor and Otis Taylor. Gary Moore passed away on 6 February 2011.

Concluding this group of reissues is the live album Live at Bush Hall. Recorded in 2007 at an intimate, invitation-only show promoting Close As You Get, the 13-song set once again pairs Moore with drummer Brian Downey. Thin Lizzy’s “Don’t Believe a Word” is the only Lizzy track to make it into the setlist and the performance features rare live versions of several songs, including Chuck Berry’s “30 Days,” the self penned “Trouble at Home,” and Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Eyesight to the Blind.”

Gary Moore rocked the worlds of blues and rock with his virtuoso guitar playing and soulful voice. Best known for his evocative solo hits Parisienne Walkways and Still Got the Blues, as well as his on-and-off membership in Thin Lizzy, Moore’s solo career comprises more than twenty albums. Throughout the 1980s, he rose through the rock hierarchy, but ultimately turned his back on what he regarded as the empty flash of metal and returned to his true passion—the blues—where, ironically, he achieved his greatest commercial success with his blues albums of the 1990s and 2000s.

Alongside leading his own bands throughout a successful solo career, Gary Moore played with some of the greatest names in rock and blues, both live and on record, including George Harrison, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Greg Lake, B.B. King, Albert King, Albert Collins, and many others. Widely regarded as one of the most influential Irish musicians of all time, Moore was honoured by both Gibson and Fender with signature guitars. The Northern Irish star remains celebrated as one of the finest guitarists in music history.

This release marks the second instalment in Org Music’s ongoing reissue campaign with Descendents, who recently reclaimed ownership of their master recordings. Following the acclaimed reissue of Milo Goes To College, this new edition brings fresh attention to one of the band’s most beloved albums—arriving just in time for its 40th anniversary.

Originally released in 1985 on New Alliance Records, the label founded by Minutemen’s D. Boon and Mike Watt, I Don’t Want To Grow Up was recorded after vocalist Milo Aukerman returned from college. It also marked the first of two albums to feature guitarist Ray Cooper. With brighter melodies and sharper hooks than its predecessor, the record helped the band avoid the dreaded sophomore slump while cementing their status as one of punk’s most influential voices.

Among the many formats, fans will find a standout: a limited Punk Note edition designed by John Yates (Stealworks). Inspired by the iconic Blue Note jazz label artwork of Reid Miles and Francis Wolff, these reimagined covers bring a bold, visual reinterpretation of punk history. The Punk Note series began with Org Music’s celebrated Bad Brains reissues, and continues here with deluxe case-wrapped jackets and new liner notes by BrooklynVegan senior editor Andrew Sacher.

Twenty-two songs in just under an hour with loads of Wonk Bollocks in between on hipster cassette live in the raw at Balter Festival is exactly the live album you never knew you wanted to hear. If you’re fully Wonked up, you know the drill and you know exactly how fuckin ridiculously good these chaps are live. They most certainly have the receipts when it comes to an hour-long set of absolute bangers. Led by Alex, they are a mish-mash of punk rock, new wave, with down-to-earth lyrics and song subjects as Alex lifts the veil from your eyes as to what some of the songs are about, and if you have a favourite song, it’s probably played on this here live set.

The band’s second live album doesn’t make them Pink Floyd or anything, but it does show how many top tunes they have and how bloody tight they are live. Whilst it’s on hipster tape, you do get a download of the show, which is nice for those of you who no longer own a Walkman and are no longer wired for sound. Wonk are a ferocious live band and songs like ‘Nan’ are on fire, but when they shake it up and play songs like ‘Horses’, they gallop (sorry) along as well as the gonzo frantic ‘Disco Fever’, but it’s the classics ‘Go Easy’ where they really cut loose as well as the poetic and on point ‘Kings Road Sporting HEroes’ that cement their status as one of the finest live bands around and if you do get the chance to take in a performance then I strongly sugegst you do so. Hell, they even end the set with a personal favourite of mine, ‘Silly Voices’.

What can you say about one of the most legendary voices of Rock that hasn’t been said before – not much, but I will say that Graham Bonnet and his band, the imaginatively monickered Graham Bonnet Band, are soon to be releasing a new live album that celebrates and commemorates Graham’s voice as one of the most recognisable in rock. Up there with Ronnie James Dio and only a few others. This album is a touching, yet relevant showcase of what the 77-year-old singer can do.

Recorded back in August 2024, at the famous Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, the Graham Bonnet Band rocked and rolled, and it has all been captured here on this the Lost In Hollywood Again album.

Opening with ‘Eyes of the World’, then straight into ‘All Night Long’ – you know that this band mean business and for the 16 song setlist – prove that class doesn’t age and only gets better with time.

‘Love’s No Friend’, ‘Making Love’ and ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ are up next, while many would keep the hits until last – Graham and band acerbate a confidence that is rarely seen these days.

Now would be a great time to introduce the band that is captured live here – Obviously, you know Graham Bonnet on the vocals, but the band, who are made up of Conrado Pesinato on guitars, Beth-Ami Heavenstone on bass, Alessandro Bertoni on the Keyboards and Francis Cassol on drums. This band have clearly reinvigorated Graham, and the audience must have been in their oils as the music washed over them.

However, up next – poses the age-old question of the live album and should guitar/keyboard/drums solos should be included. I’m of the opinion that they should, as it gives the listener the time for a toilet break, just like they do in the live setting. Wasting no time, the band kick straight into ‘Lazy’ and then ‘Imposter’. Which again only highlights how good a voice Graham still possesses.

The closing gambit of this live album is another lesson in Rock N Roll greatness. How can anyone argue that the following cluster of songs is nothing short of brilliance – ‘Night Games’, ‘Into The Night’, Assault Attack’, Too Young To Die, Too Drunk To Live’ and ‘Lost In Hollywood’.

While albums like this will undoubtedly gain the artist some new fans, it is clearly a love letter to the OG fans and a record that deserves to be heard and played loud.

It’s been a while since I last saw Ash live, which happened to be this very venue on their A to Z tour, even though they played support just down the road in the Arena, but as support to The Darkness. The middle of November, and it’s barely jumper weather outside, but in the packed, large room of Sin City, it’s like a sauna as the band takes to the sticky stage to rock the house for the next ninety minutes. The band walks onstage to the triumphant strains of ‘Zarathustra’ before launching into the new album’s Graham Coxon co-written single ‘Fun People’, which, to be fair, is met with the enthusiasm of their greatest hits, which is nice and gives the band energy right from the off.

In a bold move, the band play eight songs from the new album ‘AD Astra’, which, to be fair, is an excellent album, and the band sounds like they’re loving handing over the opening part of the set with so many new songs Tims guitar sounds crisp and front and centre even when using the tapes for the keys and effects the focus is on the threepiece who are tight as a pack of rizlas tonight. ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ is the first of the “Hits” to be offered up to the very appreciative audience. The previous records ‘Race The Night’ gets its title track aired before ‘Arcadia’ makes an appearance. Then it’s big hitter mixed with New track mixed with deep cuts as the brand new shiny songs mix in very nicely with the old staple tracks like ‘Goldfinger’ , ‘Shining Light’, followed by the awesome ‘Oh Yeah’ makes for a stunning one two of the finest power pop alternative rock thing the UK has offered in many decades.

I’m still scratching my head as to the purpose of covering the Harry Belafonte track, but hey, if they like it, who am I to disagree but it was welcome to get on track with a glut of bangers from the ‘1977’ album as the minutes flew by, it was ‘Jack Names The Planets’ from ‘Trailer’ first to warm the pit up a bit (is it really that long ago when this was released) a real time capule of a song when Ash seemed like mainstays on the music shows of terestrial TV and MTV, it still sounded vibrant and fresh with that Bass rumble sounding massive.

Tim returned to the stage alone for a run-through ‘My Favourite Ghost’ before the other pair returned for a belter of a hat-trick to finish off another superb set from Downpatrick’s favourite sons ‘Kung Fu’, ‘Girl From Mars’ and ‘Bun Baby Burn’ are exactly what an encore should sound like. That was a mightily quick hour and a half, and once again a beaming Ash came, saw and conquered.

If you do get the chance to catch the band on this tour, let me tell you they are on form, and if it’s half as good as tonight, then you won’t be disappointed. Same time next year please guys.

The fourth single from the all-star compilation is from the pioneering heavy metal legends  Raven, the ear-splitting take on Metallica’s ‘Metal Militia’.

When the Four Horsemen galloped to the top of dozens of countries’ charts with their self-titled album in 1991, they became the new measuring stick for their genre, and their standard is one that no hard rockers since have matched, let alone outdone.

No Life ’Til Leather – A Tribute to Metallica’s Kill ’Em All unites Metallica’s favourites, their peers, and the generations that came next. Metallica’s first proper tour was with Raven in 1983, on the famous Kill ‘Em All For One venture. Thus, it is only fitting that   Raven feature on the album with their powerfully unapologetic rendition of Metallica’s “Metal Militia”. With unrelenting energy and raw precision, Raven channels the ferocity of the original while stamping their own unmistakable identity on the track — a bold statement that captures the spirit and intensity of the entire album.

The veteran likes of SaxonDiamond Head, and Motörhead, (three of Metallica’s favourite bands) are joined by rising stars such as Tailgunner and Swedish prog metallers Soen to create a who’s-who of heavy music, with each performer lending their unique sound to one classic track. Contributions from thrash giants Testament, ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, and New Wave of British Heavy Metal linchpins Tygers of Pan Tang show the label looking beyond their own artists to amass the greatest lineup possible.
