After a 15-year absence Carl Barât, Anthony Rossomando and Gary Powell, aka Dirty Pretty Things, are dusting off their instruments to celebrate the 15th anniversary (a Covid year late) of their debut album ‘Waterloo To Anywhere,’ at the Electric Ballroom in Camden (North London) on Thursday 24th March.

Carl Barat: “We decided last year, to reunite for the 15th birthday of ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’, but the global pandemic scuppered that. Not wanting to let Covid rob us of this opportunity, we decided to put on a show this coming March, to celebrate a band and time that means the world to us.”


Gary Powell: “It’s great to be back performing music that was born out of friendship and the opportunity to create and express, at a time when it would’ve been easier for us not to. We are looking forward to reengaging with old friends and making some new ones.”


Anthony Rossomando: “The spirit of DPT will always coarse through my veins. I’ve been anticipating this moment for years! Let’s gooo.”


Carl Barât, Gary Powell and Anthony Rossomando formed Dirty Pretty Things after the Libertines tour came to an end in 2004. They recruited Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning American songwriter Anthony Rossomando, who had toured with the Libertines as the second guitarist, and on bass was Didz Hammond from The Cooper Temple Clause. As time stands still for no man Didz Hammond is unfortunately not able to fulfil his role, being bass player/backing vocalist for the up and coming show, which is unfortunate – but leaves the role to be filled by the Klaxons very own Jamie Reynolds, who has had a long-standing relationship with the band and has performed with them previously at Glastonbury.


Dirty Pretty Things signed to Universal’s Vertigo label and recorded their debut album ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ in LA with Dave Sardy (Oasis, Jet) and in Glasgow with Tony Doogan (Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai). Their first single ‘Bang Bang You’re Dead’ went top 5. Their second single ‘Deadwood’ was also a hit and ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ entered the UK album charts at No 3 in August ‘06. Their second album ‘Romance At Short Notice’ followed in 2008. Universal will reissue ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ on vinyl in June 2022. 


Carl Barât and Gary Powell have released three albums with the Libertines: ‘Up The Bracket’ (’02), ‘The Libertines’ (’04) and ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ (’15); two with Dirty Pretty Things: ‘Waterloo To Anywhere’ (’06) and ‘Romance At Short Notice’ (’08). Carl Barât released a self titled solo album (’10) and one with his new band The Jackals ‘Let It Reign’ (’15).

TRAMPOLENE release their third album ‘Love No Less Than A Queen,’ on Friday 16th July through the Strap Originals label. The album features 12 new TRAMPOLENE original songs and was produced by Mike Moore (Baxter Dury/Liam Gallagher), Richard Jackson (Super Furry Animals) & Jason Stafford (Albion Rooms) and mixed by Dave Emery (Arcade Fire/Elbow).

 

 

Says TRAMPOLENE main man Jack Jones: “The album was a way of me summing up my life so far. It made me search into myself and understand that life really is a gift after all and that being at peace isn’t wrong or something you don’t deserve and it actually makes things better that way.”

Gotta Do More Gotta Be More “we’re all told we can be better, we can do more. It’s not always true. Repeat it so often it becomes hypnotic and surreal and loses any sense or meaning. Then you’re free to relax and be yourself.”
Oh Lover’ “started as a one-way message from a boy to a girl about their long distance love affair, but as the Pandemic became the new reality, it morphed into a song about being apart indefinitely…but now in a world that was unrecognisable and where nothing made sense and everything has changed.”
‘The Misadventures Of Lord Billy Bilo’ “a nightmare narrative of things that happen when you’re asleep and your brain is occupied by twisted, weird imaginings that you are convinced are real.”
‘No Love No Kisses’ “I read an article about tower block graveyards in Japan, due to lack of space which then developed into a song about silly domestic rows with your partner.”
‘Remember’ “getting over your compulsions, mine had begun to ruin my life and damage others and they were taking away all my dreams. This is about all the people who helped me through.” 
‘Uncle Brian’s Abattoir’ “came about when I was picking up my little cousin from an after school art class…she had painted a paradise where animals and humans lived in harmony but mistakenly called it an Abattoir…I found the whole thing very charming and jotted it down in my notes…So it’s about an abattoir…but not as you know it…it’s taken straight out of a child’s imagination. It has taken on another meaning for me lately as it is also about slowly going mad being stuck indoors during the Lockdown”
‘Shoot The Lights’ “being stuck in a lockdown with someone you are happy with and not wanting to leave the house and go anywhere.”
‘Lighter Than Paper’ “I got the idea from an episode of ‘Desert Island Discs,’ someone’s husband had died and she was very successful and had friends all over the world that she could do anything with, but no-one she could do nothing with…it stuck with me.”
‘Perfect View’ “is about not selling yourself short – the perfect view is in your mind.”
‘Milan’ “I always wanted to call this Milan on a Comedown, another love song about fighting against having joy in my life…I always thought I was supposed to be lonely and unhappy…” 
‘Come Join Me In Life’ “a call to arms for the left behinds and the voiceless ones…don’t believe what they tell you, its your world too.”
The album also features ‘Born Again’ which is included in the soundtrack to the hugely successful digital Basketball game NBA2K.

TRAMPOLENE & PETER DOHERTY are making available a new track, ‘Uncle Brian’s Abattoir,’ written and recorded during the Corona Virus Lockdown in Swansea, London  & Normandy. Jack Jones from Trampolene recorded his spoken word piece on his phone in Swansea and wired it to producer Mike Moore in London who added the music and then forwarded it to Peter Doherty in Normandy who put his vocals down on his phone and emailed it back to Mike Moore, who put it all together. ‘Uncle Brian’s Abattoir’ is released via Strap Originals/Cargo Records and is available now to stream or buy from: Here

Trampolene singer Jack Jones: “Uncle Brian’s Abattoir came about when I was picking up my little cousin from an after school art class…she had painted a paradise where animals and humans lived in harmony but mistakenly called it an Abattoir…I found the whole thing very charming and jotted it down in my notes…So it’s about an abattoir…but not as you know it…it’s taken straight out of a child’s imagination. It has taken on another meaning for me lately as it is also about slowly going mad being stuck indoors during the Lockdown”
Producer, multi instrumentalist and guitarist with Liam Gallagher, Mike Moore says of the recording:  “it’s a bit like that kids’ drawing game where someone draws the head, folds the paper and passes it on.Someone else draws the body and so on. Then the reveal is the surprise to everyone involved.”
The video was edited together from footage shot on phones in The Mumbles (Jack’s home) and Etretat (Peter’s Lockdown home) by Katia de Vidas (The Puta Madres). The Artwork was painted during the Lockdown) by Trampolene bass player Wayne Thomas, who also makes a cameo appearance in the video swinging from a tree.
