Dead Dirty Dinosaurs – ‘Too Many Questions: The Abbey Road Masters’ (Riot Records) ‘Holding Back is a brooding beast of a track with the slow purposeful twelve-bar riff building into a cacophony of noise’.  To be fair its bettered by track two which is another brooding number with a menacing verse followed by raising the volume for the chorus before falling back.  A nice idea that works on ‘Revenge’.

A love of 90’s alt-rock, punk, post-punk and post-rock serves them well as ‘bad Timing’ rocks like a good un.  Signing off this four-track EP with the excellent ‘Monica’ mixing up the likes of Therapy? with the Pixies is a fine way to introduce yourselves for this Brisbane trio.  They’ve certainly got the chops on what is an excellent balanced EP.

The Dogs featuring Frank Meyer – ‘Under The Coast’Chicanery Chick Records/Die Laughing Records) Underground punk legends THE DOGS have unleashed a new digital single ‘Under The Coast’ that was co-written with and features fellow rock ‘n’ roller Frank Meyer (The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs, James Williamson & The Pink Hearts) on guest vocals and guitar. The socially conscious, topical song is available now on all digital formats and deals with the chaos and dissonance of modern times.  None more Rock and Roll than Frank when he’s in full fight so it’s great to have him here belting out a really good song.

Now if they were to record a whole album as good as this then the pandemic would have had a good final outcome from a year of lockdowns and turmoil.  Please make it happen.

Stream/buy ‘Under The Coast’ HERE

Die Laughing Records will also issue ‘Under The Coast’ on vinyl later this year as the B-side to The Dogs’ previous digi-single Welcome to the Revolution.’

Chuck Norris Experiment – ‘Dirtshot’ (Self Release)  The Scandinavian Rockers channel their innermost DC with a huge riff that sees them continue with their pursuit of all things loud.  It also confirms them as Swedens premier Action Rock and Rollers a position they’ve had hold of for as long as I can remember.

It’s as good as anything they’ve done for ages and the solo is an absolute blast. In fact I go so far as to say it could become one of their highlights live such is the energy of the song – great effort!  Always a pleasure and never a chore to put on some CNE you should join me.  Facebook / Bandcamp

Cheap Trick – ‘Boys And Girls And Rock and Roll’ (BMG) With a new album coming in April Cheap Trick release another new tune and what a ball of energy it is.  Still Relevant – Still go tit and still going (Thank God) Hall of Famers are still cooking with this new record sounding lean and mean they certainly rock it up with this one. Its anthemic and pure unadulterated Cheap Trick – Awesome!  CONNECT WITH CHEAP TRICK: Website / Facebook / Instagram / Twitter

The Erratix – ‘You Don’t Care’ (Beluga Records) Another new band releasing excellent music on Beluga Records.  this time it’s a slice of power pop ear candy hailing from Minneapolis, USA, and what a stonking introduction it is too.  Mixing old school Costello with some Exploding Hearts and a whole lot more besides.  It’s only two songs but if this is an indication of what’s to come then bring it on this is a wonderful debut single. Be it the A-side of ‘We Don’t Care’ and its boundless energy or the other side ‘When Will It End’ which is infectious and boundless energy poured onto a side of a 7″ record.  It’s outta the same handbook as bands like The Cry but with some added keyboard swirl or The Briefs, yeah you know and on this evidence so do The Erratix.  Buy it Here     The Erratix Facebook

Slander Tongue – ‘Ride’ (Slovenly Records)  what I’d like to pigeonhole as a right toe-tapper.  Slander Tongue are riffin’ it up on this one like early AC/DC but with more attitude! Yeah, thats right more attitude than Bon and the boys it’s got a house party of chorus going on here and the solo is on fire. Hell, flip it over and ‘Lockdown’ is platform shoed glam slammin’.  IF there is a better single coming out then I’ve not heard it and it hasn’t found its way onto the RPM Jukebox but this bad boy has. Berlin is a lucky place to have these cats call it home and If you have a few coins going spare and want a band to chuck em at then this is all killer and no filler, Buy it! Bandcamp

Cousin Betty – ‘Left’ (Golden Robot Records) “Distorted and psychedelic influenced indie desert rock with some grungy garage infused overtones”.  Quite a mouthful to introduce yourself but I think it does them a disservice as ‘Tape Hiss’ cracks open this EP in fine style and once it gets going it’s an infectious slab of loud rock! albeit with an abrupt end. ‘Drone’ is another slab of hard, loud, rawk!

Born out of the pandemic and boredom main architect Damien Stofka whos an old hand at this music business spent his lockdown collaborating with artists he liked from around the world and ‘Left’ Was Born. Instrumental ‘Lazy Bones’ wasn’t for me but the pop undertones of ‘Loan Sharks Of Love’ mashed up with noise and chaos my interest perked up. but they saved the best till last as ‘AWOL’ is a runaway train reminding me of something Josh Homme might put together.

Diner Drugs – ‘Need Time’ ( )  A real blast of energy from Diner Drugs as the only band I know outta New Brunswick so must be the best the area has to offer releases ‘Need Time’ as it thunders around my speakers.  Walking the path trodden by the likes of Bronx, Cancer Bats, and heart attack kids is always going to get a listen around these parts and it is with great pleasure that they did.  Top tune! get on it kids it’s a banger! Bandcamp

Featuring members of Bong Jovi, The Human Comedy and Savage Young, collectively they’ve been playing music in Moncton since 2009 and ready to take on the next trip and my advice is jump on it you won’t be disappointed -noisy bastards!  Facebook / Twitter / Instagram

Tommy’s RockTrip – ‘Got To Play Some Rock ‘N Roll’ (Frontiers) OH baby it’s like a steam train rolling down the tracks.  Retro Rockers Tommy’s Rocket Trip is on Fire! Flying V’s double bass drums its happening kids and Got To Play Some rock and Roll is running on down the track.  Formed by drummer Tommy Clufetos and featuring lead vocalist Eric Dover (singer and/or guitarist with Jellyfish, Slash’s Snakepit and Alice Cooper), Eliot Lorengo (bass), Hank Schneekluth (lead guitar) and Nao Nakashima (rhythm guitar) so it’s obvious these cats can play and play they most certainly do they might not be reinventing the wheel but they are setting it ablaze!

OK.  With the last knockings of October upon us and as we turn back the clocks through Halloween and career into November it seems only fair that we mop up all the late entries into the October singles Club.  Thank us later but for now, check out these worthy entries.

Yard Of Blondes – ‘Do You Need More?’ (Golden Robot / Die Laughing Records)  These LA Rockers knock out the third single off their much anticipated new album With a big modern-sounding record it actually has a riff that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Queens Of Stone Age record and saying that the use of double-tracking the vocals are an idea QOTSA run with quite often.  To be fair it’s a decent track and the album is worth checking out on the strength of this one and it’s nice to see some decent alternative rock music being made.  Check it out Here

Follow Yard Of Blondes Website / Twitter / Instagram / Facebook

Chuck Norris Experiment – ‘Kill The Night’ (Transubstans Records / Ghost Highway Records) It’s loud, it’s brash and it’s in your face.  CNE unveil the first track off their new album that should be with us in early 2020.  With a pounding riff and wah infested solo its a great tune. ‘Kill The Night’ is a banger as the kids would say and on the back of their super cool 5″ split with Sonny Vincent these are good times for CNE fans.

Mr. Teenage – ‘Automatic Love’ (Anti Fade Records)  Melbourne four-piece Mr. Teenage deliver punchy rock’n’roll with a bit of snotty power pop. They’ve been causing a stir back home playing with Australian legends the Cosmic Psychos and press darlings Amyl and The Sniffers.  It’s not hard to see how that’s come about on the strength of these tunes.  I’ve got a lot of time for the excellent ‘Waste Of Time’  and the Dolls tinged ‘the Loser’  these cats might have been born 40 years too late but when you hear a great EP it’s timeless.  This rough around the edges power pop is most welcome round these parts.  Mr. Teenager can come again. Single of the week? You bet it is. Pick up a copy here

AVALANCHE – ‘Get Back’ (X Ray Records) Sydney hard rockers Avalanche are set to release their new single ‘Get Back (To F*ckwit City)’ via X-Ray Records on 16th November. ‘Get Back (To F*ckwit City)’ is the follow up to their recent single.

Avalanche are 4 misfits from Sydney’s west, playing electrifying, DC inspired hard rock. Get Back (To F*ckwit City) is a raw, punchy and anthemic ode to the band’s hometown and the people which reside in it. Its old-school by the nu school and it was practically recorded live in the studio with no fills, no-frills, Lets Rock, stripped-back approach. Horns up and lets Rock!

Pre-order/pre-save ‘Get Back (To F*ckwit City)’ HERE

Lemon Drop Gang – ‘Bubble Yum’ (Rum Bar Records)  Lemon Drop Gang hails from Tucson Arizona, home of some of the most unusual music in the USA. High energy burners mixed with haunting tales of psychotic love make their debut album, ‘I’m Not The One’, a complete experience in any deranged mind.  I’ll have whatever these guys are on.

Silverjet – ‘Everybody Used To Love You’ (Self Release) With a feature coming up this trio releases a video for the track ‘Everybody Used To Love You’.  With big riffs being the name of the game check it out.

The Sinclairs featuring Paul-Ronney Angel – ‘Halloween Wings’ (Cleopatra Records) You want a record of the week? Look no further than this ghoulishly good track from the most in-demand drummer in lockdown and the king of Gypsy, bop n roll. ‘Halloween Wings’ is a barrel full of rock and roll with a spooktacular edge to it with some mightily fine six-string work courtesy of Billy Shinbone.

The album will drive you batty and let’s make no bones about the guest slot from Paul Ronney you shouldn’t pass this one by its spooktacular.  Check it out Here

Card Reader – “Mental Scars (feat. Ryan Beebe)  The song is available for FREE download on Bandcamp until 11/10 (‘Mental Scars’ EP release date). Card Reader is a pop-punk band from Long Island, NY. A quartet consisting of guitarist/vocalist Tom Petito, drummer Rob Cigliano, guitarist Marc Lambert and bassist/vocalist Matt Sullivan. The group is getting ready to launch their first EP release “Mental Scars” on Tuesday, November 10th.

Card Reader has forged ahead to provide fans with more music in 2020. This time with the added experience and vocal presence from their new bassist Matt Sullivan. They attacked writing their new EP with the goal of reinforcing positivity and pushing the boundaries of their sound.

The 69 Cats – ‘Hollywoods Bleeding’ (Cleopatra Records) Jyrki 69 & Danny B. Harvey’s gothabilly supergroup, The 69 Cats, return with The Damned’s Rat Scabies & Kim Nekroman for a wild and infectious new single, a cover of Post Malone’s ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding!’ Check out the video and prepare for the full album in early 2021. Rat must be trying to break some world record for being the busiest drummer on the planet. With Jyrki putting on his best ’80s Iggy Pop voice it’s a winner from me.  To be fair its worked really well and is a bit ghoultastic.

Stiff Richards – ‘Got It To Go’ (Legless Records via Bandcamp) New music from Australias Stiff Richards is always going to get our attention.  Got It To Go isn’t the wild unleashed wreckless drunken ride but a more measured confident groove.  It was mentioned it had the same vibe as Bronx and that’s a decent shout both bands are top-notch and when they cut loose their brimming with urgency and when they kick back (as it were) they sound like this.  One song is fantastic but we want more so when you’re ready chaps we’ll have that long-player, thanks. and the good news there is its coming out soonish from legless in Australia and its getting a European release from Drunken Sailor Records.  In the meantime check out the single here

Spunk Volcano & The Eruptions – ‘Only Got Eyes For You’ (Avenue Recordz) You want anthems for singles? fuckin’ right you do.  In these tough times how about bands release singles ahead of an album and make it a bloody good un or else.  SV & The Eruptions have only gone and done that twice before now with this being the last un before the album hits us in December. This one might just be the biggest sounding of the lot with a confident mid-paced number and judging by the lyrics maybe SV has softened and penned a love song (of sorts) its certainly his best vocal delivery yet with a fantastic melody and one that burrows down into the ear and sets up camp and you find yourself singing hours later.  The sign of a good single?  I think so. It also features ‘Snap Backbone’ from the ‘Ramraid’ EP  & ‘Together Forever As Ghosts’ from ‘Shit Generation’.  SV & The Eruptions are prolific and they seem to be getting better and better at this songwriting lark  – long may it continue. Oh and that artwork is creepy as fuck. Buy it Here    check em out – Facebook / Website

Matty James Cassidy – ‘Old Souls’ (Pirate Heart Records)  taken from the album of the same name Matty infuses his folk and rock and roll roots to create a great song mixing electric with acoustic but then takes it to the next level with some welcome and excellent saxophone.  There’s a bit of the Clash in here and some.  Matty has expanded the troubadour tag and turned in a really impressive song to showcase his new album Website

Gob Patrol – ‘Sin City’ (Riot Records) Of course its punk rock.  With a name like Gob Patrol, it wasn’t ever not going to sound like The Exploited doing Rancid doing GBH.  Nothing wrong with that either.  ‘Sin City’ is easy on the ear and dumb and full of fun.  These Vegas punks kick-off ‘Anarchy’ as if to solidify their punk rock credentials.  It’s pretty decent if the UK82 scene was your thing.  It not original but then why should it be they’re just kicking the can down the road and pogoing for fun with their mates.  Good on ’em I say and get down to sin city and pogo pogo! Pre-order/pre-save Sin City HERE

The Urethras ‘Patronized’ (Pirates Press Records) Pissed off teenagers from California writing punk rock songs in 2020 who’d have thought it?  Raw, unapologetic, and raging against the machine. Throw in a global pandemic, raging fires in their backyards and you’ve got a ticking time bomb of angst and it sounds like it.  Imagine a rough house Rancid,  Some 82 punk and the usual suspects like Dead Kennedys or Germs and a heap of Straight edge bands who used to turn CBGB into a frothing mess The Urethras are kickings it.  ‘Patronized’ is that sound.  Good on you kids and I mean that in a non patronising way.  As for the name stop giggling you nutters.  Facebook

Kids Of Skids – ‘Trapped’  (Riot Records) Sydney-based hardcore punk band KIDS OF SKIDS recently released their debut single and subsequent video Army Store via Riot Records. Now they are set to drop their second single Trapped on October 19thTrapped is about being Trapped in Iso during fu**ing Corona.   In your face rapid hardcore punk rock oz style.  Brutal shit from down under that will pummel your brain – get on the VB and throw yourself about its like Chesty Malone & The Slice EM Ups have Australian blood brothers.
Pre-order/save Trapped HERE

Antagonizers ATL – ‘Black Clouds’ (Pirates Press Records)  Oi, Oi Now rounded out as a 6 piece, Antagonizers ATL has this single out as a glimpse of the future as these street punks get ready to release the long-player with a Celtic tinge it’s not as oirish as say a Dropkick Murphys but it’s cut from a similar cloth.

The song features some extra vocals from labelmate Matt Henson (NOi!SE)as if these street punks needed help on those gang vocals.

Antagonizers ATL’s brand of dirty rock n’ roll is on full display, and these Atlanta working class street punks have carved their teeth in the scene with a relentless work ethic and a commanding live show for the better part of a decade.  Fill yer glass and get a jig on street punks are in the room.

Atomic Zeros – ‘Dirty Game’ (Ghost Highway Records) A cool sleazy slab of garage rock with a great hook on the chorus.  A really well-written song with some fine crunchy guitars borrowing a lick or two from the likes of Gluecifer and knocking out a cover of The Lord’s classic ‘Russian Roulette’ on the B side is never going to end badly with us.  Curiously the second cover of the same song in a month. Once again the do the track proud with a killer version.  Super limited numbers available from the best label in Spain Here or from the band Here

The Slackers – ‘Blue’ (Pirates Press Records) Normally, in the months leading up to arguably the biggest election, you wouldn’t want to go about releasing a new record for your band… Unless of course, that song was a taste of the color and voice you want to lend to the dialogue.

NYC legends trumpet tooting mellow bit of Ska.  Harking back to some classic first wave The Slackers turn in a chilled out ‘Blue’ before the storm of what might follow.  It’s not heading to the top of the charts any day soon but who cares this is great especially the Dub version (like it needed a Dub Version) Facebook

The Imbeciles – ‘Yes I Am’  Scuzzy mysterious punk rockers release the first video from their EP that’s released later this month containing 6-tracks the EP ‘Dissolution Sessions’ will be out at the end of October. Until then this amusing video deals with the band’s lineup changes as well as showcasing their wonderful talent for penning garage rock and roll the song has a great hook and who doesn’t love a riff like that?
