After the glorious success of releasing two new records on the same day (Automatic & Stick) Jim Bob wastes no time before knocking out another fine 10″ record with four brand new tunes.
To be honest, after pre-ordering a signed copy from the source, I’d forgotten about it as it was what seems like a few months ago at least, so imagine my surprise when the postie knocked on my door with a brown mailer containing this record. The last 10″ EP Jim Bob did was some dazzling covers, which, to be honest, I’d happily pay for a new EP of that nonsense every month for a year if he was to be so inclined to cash in on his fanbase and twist a bunch of other people’s babies, but that’s for another day. I digress; this here EP is new original tunes. So let’s get down to marking young Bob’s homework, shall we?
Kicking off with the heads-down, amps-turned-up title track. A short, sharp shocker of a tune that deals with the mood of today in typical Jim Bob style. We thought the days of Boris buffoonery were over, but alas, it was just the beginning. I’d say it’s a peek into Bob’s world, but it’s a fuckin panic room so there’s no windows, but it’s suitably claustrophobic and chaotic and a wonderful noise to get us up and running.
Slow down, young man ‘Grassroots’ is next and a more stable intro before heading off into some jig of a middle eight as we thump on with yet more Jim Bob social commentary. Next up is ‘Belinda’s Racist Hips’, someone I fear we all know as Jim Bob dives into some wonderful twisted guitar pop that is a real earworm and a joy to hear turned right up, it’ll annoy the flag shaggers if they were even capable of unravelling the lyrics. The shame is it’s only four bloody tracks, but I’ll take it every time. Closing off with the thumping good tune of ‘Hope For The Best’ and looking for the good in every situation and person, Jim Bob signs off with a cheeky smile and a wink, and I love what I’m hearing now. Go get it, and if you’re lucky, track down a signed vinyl record; it’s worth it.
