Here’s your starting 11 for the final knockings of October. Winter is upon us and this little lot will warm you right up. Some absolute bangers on offer in this sitting of the singles club from Europe the USA and the UK. Hit em up and check em out you might find your new favourite band

Guerrilla Teens – ‘Halfway To Maybe’ (self Release) Another day another two tunes from the trusty hand of the insanely talented Mr Scott Drake otherwise known as Guerrilla Deluxe. Let’s not fuck around here this is the single of the week and single of the month and someone fire the PR because I wasn’t notified about this release sooner. Of course it Rocks and Rolls from the opening slap of that snare through the garage vibes its got a cool hook on the chorus just like previous offerings from the Teens and anything that’s ever been released under the name or other bands that has been touched by the presence of Mr. Drake. Do the album press it on wax and take my goddamn money. Bandcamp Here

Bitch Queens – ‘Party Hard(ly)’ (Lux Noise Recordings/ Spagettytown Records) Probably the best Deathpunk band on the planet Bitch Queens have been churning out effortlessly cool and quality Pun Rock n Roll for a long time and they only seem to be getting better at it the longer they do it and that brings us nicely to this point in time 2022 boys and girls and this wall of noise kicks off with the effortlessly cool title track. It’s a huge riff piled on top of an excellent chorus and a wall of noise that just feels like the best eardrum massage you could imagine. the breakdown is well-timed and as the song builds it’s a majestic sound. These gentlemen are incapable of writing a shit tune and the modern-sounding marriage of Placebo and Turbonegro on the song ‘Stay Here Forever’ should be the song that sees the band cross over into a huge market with mass appeal.

There are five songs on offer and the halfway house is a rocket-riding thumper ‘Recycled Youth’ has it all from the grunting thunder of the bassline to the steady punch of the drums before the guitars bring the house down -sublime stuff. These boys know they’re damn good at what they do and it shows in the fact they can fill out an EP with banger after banger ‘These Secrets’ shows this. Signing off with the barnstorming weirdness of ‘Be No Evil’ they duel guitars with Beelzebub himself and give you respite until the middle of the song before kicking the living shit out of the speakers with their sonic drops of greatness. Get hold of this motherfucker before it’s too late you absolutely won’t regret it. Bitch Queens still kicking it better than most – buy it! it’s epic!

WAX ON WATER – ‘GHOULS & FIENDS AND IN-BETWEENS…EP’ (HOWLING TEMPEST RECORDS / THE ORCHARD) Maya Damaris and Steven Blessing are an Alternative Rock duo from London they take their inspiration from electronica, metal, grunge, goth and Industrial music. The EP was mixed by ex-Fields of the Nephilim guitarist Paul Miles adding extra Goth Spooktacular magic to their seasonal-themed tunes. the musicianship on the opener is familiar but it creeps and crawls through your speakers in a sonic explosion of all their influences. Maya’s vocals set the tone as ‘ Guanciale (Mark of the Vampire)’ builds with some heavy guitar layered under a tonne of synths and gregorian chants. The first three songs are mid-paced whilst ‘Part Of Me’ is a far more atmospheric laid-back track with a lot going on but it never breaks out. If you want guitars then ‘More Than I’ should satisfy your craving. It’s a different outlook on the Halloween theme and avoids cliches. Spotify: tinyurl.com/4xrm9yzu

THE WRATH- ‘Wrong Side’ (Riot Records) Not heard a full-throttled slice of Rockabilly for ages. Certainly not heard from a down under slap that salamander stick since the Living end were at their peak. The Wrath gives it some proper welly on ‘Wrong Side’ dishing out plenty of slap behind a solid beat and some crunchy riff-a-rama. A pretty decent effort to be fair these guys have been doing this for well over a decade so it comes as no surprise they know what they’re doing. Tommy Creeper leads the band on a thumping marching beat and give my eardrums a solid kicking – lets ave it!

The Jacklights – ‘Underachiever’ (Red On Red Records) melodic punk self-aware lyrics, driving guitar, and melodic vocal leads, Nilagia McCoy and her band deliver a one-two punch of punk vibrancy. A mid-paced slice of street punk with McCoy’s dreamy vocals leading the way. ‘Womanchild’ turns up the West Coast style pop punk with a driving song. It’s been done a bazillion times and when done right has energy and stands up in a very crowded genre.

Bad Wolves – ‘Mama I’m Coming Home’ (Better Noise Music) A real headscratcher this. Not Ozzy’s best song by a long chalk but one of his most memorable power ballads as far as covering it goes I wouldn’t but hey ho they do a fairly honest and respectful version. Its go ta big production and one to show off the vocals and any guitarist would love to knock out the cock rock soloing over that acoustic pick. The band head off on a huge two and a half month tour to promote their new record and this will no doubt have the classic rock fans taking notice. Pre Order Here

The Rumperts – ‘Nazissist’ (SBÄM Records) A “Fuck You” to Misogyny! For The Rumperts. The four-piece punk band recently got the chance to travel all the way from Vienna to Colorado to work together with Chris Beeble in the legendary Blasting Room Studios, where music from Rise Against, Propagandhi, Lagwagon, Face to Face and so many more great punk rock bands were recorded.

The band set fire to their instruments and get their heads down and thrash away. With the fuel being Racists, Misogynists and homophobes everywhere the band get into a bit of a Turbonegro groove and just blaze it. I like it – all of it, short, sharp and to the point. Punk as fuck!

Rat Rod – ‘All Or Nothing’ (shock Records) Channeling their barroom boogie of DC and hard living it’s Taken from the quintet’s upcoming album, ‘Four on the Floor’, the video features the band live on stage at The Union Firehouse in Mt Holly, NJ as well as casino scenes that really sum up life so to speak.  “Life can be a gamble and there are times when you need to go ‘all in’. Horns up kids lets bang that head!

DANGEREENS – ‘ Nomadic Step’ (Golden Robot Records) – Its got some old school Motown in those honkin horns and a little dash of Squeeze on that melody. Dangereens release the new single in early November and its a swaggering rootin tootin rocker that has elements of the 70s glam and a whole lot more besides not forgetting some vintage Stones.
I loved their debut LP and the singles and this is another feather in their dandy cap. Rock on brothers I like it – I like it a lot.

Marc Valentine – ‘Swiss Laundrette EP (Self Release) Former Dreamer Marc seems like he’s having a ball what with a new album that was really impressive and what many say are fantastic live shows that are ripping it up around the UK and not one to stand still releasing a brand new EP ‘Swiss Laundrette’ as the synth swirls in this chest-beating slice of pop n roll washes over you. It’s got a great melody and Marc sounds like he’s singing it just for you. The first three tracks all featured on his fantastic solo album ‘Future Obscure’ with the fourth tune a non-album ballad ‘I’m Just A Mess (Around You)’ and I wonder why would you leave this track off any album? might even be my favourite song on this here EP – outstanding stuff. Riley’s L.A. Guns – ‘Overdrive’ (Golden Robot Records) Just rip the plaster off and be done with it. Riley’s La Guns step things up with ‘Overdrive’ and after their decent offering last time out. Steve RileyKelly Nickels, with Scott Griffin and Kurt Frohlich do another very decent offering of HArd Rockin Riff-a-rama. Sure it high octane macho cars and hard riffs but this is decent and an indication of what’s to come off the new album which will be decent on this evidence. I like this – more please Mr Riley.

DIRT BOX DISCO – ‘Fuck me it’s all Gone Wrong’ (AVENUE RECORDZ) Hey Hey it’s a Dirtbox Day, Fuck Me its only Dirtbox Disco damaging my ears with their Motorhead infused punk rock n roll.

Of course its a banger as it lodges in your head and you can’t get rid of the gang vocal chorus for days and you find yourself saying fuck me at every oportunity. Its got a catchy chorus of course it has, It’s to the point and its got guitars that are razor sharp and Maff is kicking the shit out of his tubs. Dirtbox are back in the ring and doing what they do better than anyone else. Loud and proud and right on the money! Its all gone right more like.

JOHNNY CASINO -‘Another Girl’ (Golden Robot Records) This is the first single from his February 2022 release ‘5×7 the Days of Wine and Cola‘Another Girl’ started out as a moody acoustic piece until it found its way into the recording studio on the Costa Blanca in Spain. Here, a fire had been lit underneath it, a couple of bottles of wine poured all over it and an inspired electric guitar burned into it by Johnny and his band. There is a san fran vibe about it as well maybe is in the vocals but whatever its a great tune and if the rest of the record is up to this standard then bring it on. The solo is blistering.

Pre-Save/Pre-Order ‘Another Girl’ HERE

Mickey Leigh’s Mutated Music – ‘No Fun Anymore’ (Wicked Cool Records) A thumping good tune. Though Mickey Leigh has been making music for over five decades, 2022 sees his first solo full-length release under the name Mickey Leigh’s Mutated Music.  Growing up the brother of Joey Ramone,   If this is the standard of what we can expect from his first solo album, ‘Variants of Vibe’, in February 2022 then bring it on. The first single, ‘No Fun Anymore’ is like the bastard child of Stiv Bators solo material and a real Rock and Roll tonic packed with energy and a strong hook get this on your new years wish list. hit it up here

Kurt Baker – Christmas In The Sand (Wicked Cool Records)  The first of two singles from Kurt Baker this round-up ‘Christmas in the sand’ was inspired by Kurt and his longtime collaborator and bandmate, Wyatt Funderburk’s, experience writing the song in the cold weather of Maine.  He said, “It’s a song about wanting to be at the beach during Christmas time! If only we lived in the southern hemisphere, haha!”  The original version of the song was released in 2012, but 2021 saw the band revisit the song and “kick it up a notch.” I’m sure you’ll agree it has all the hallmarks of a crimbo classic. Get it on the playlist at the office party and turn it up its got sleigh bells n everything – Check it out Here

Swedish Magazines – ‘Head On Ice’ (Rubber Records) If you know you simply know. Melbourne rockers Sweedish Magazines are dropping bombs off their new album ‘I Wish Life Could Be’ and this is the latest – full of barroom Malcolm Young fire it barrels along like a bouncing bomb with boundless energy before smashing in your ear with an explosive chorus that makes your toes tap and your head move back and fore. Fantastic tune and one that makes you want to hear more and on this track they hit a groove and ride the shit out of it. If you want a catagory for this then punk n boogie would be apt as they mix Bon era DC with some punk rock SLF style. Whats not to like – excellent stuff.

Cheap Cassettes – ‘She Aint Nothing Like You’ (Rum Bar Records) Hell Yeah! the first glimpse under the hood of the new album from Candas Cheap Cassettes is a slow grooving rock and rolla and with great subtle gang harmonies these cats are back in the saddle and make this grooving rock and roll seem effortless from the clear melodic guitar break to the subtle late night overdrive they make great bedfellows with The Speedways from the UK and mixing up some Georgia Sattelites its such a cool tune that gets me excited for the album when it hits the shelves.

Chew Manga – ‘Listless’ (Stray Cat Records) full phat and fuzzy. This rocket-fueled slice of alternative rock is the first glimpse into the world of Chew Manga. Not heard these guys before but this Manchester mob has got some cool ideas and mix it up on single with a catchy hook and some great playing making for a most listenable tune and a pretty good introduction to the band. Check it out Here

Tony Iommi – ‘Scent Of Dark’ It might not be a crimbo single (Thank god) but this is the new release from Sabbath Guitar God Tony Iommi and as the video testifies it’s a slow brooding grinding beast of an instrumental combining those riffs and some lush cello playing. Of course, there isn’t any singing just riff after riff after mother fucking riff from the originator of all that is heavy and dark. Get it Here

Wax On Water – ‘The Drip -Part 1’ EP This Camden ensemble kicks off this EP with a dark-stringed intro before their electro attack creepy crawls into your ear. ‘Don’t Bore Us’ builds slowly with a dark brooding tempo before breaking out with a menacing riff before falling back into the electro grunge fused twist.

‘The Sting In The Raw’ is a raw as razor blades riff that meanders through the song slashing away with menace. ‘Seventh Son’ is more haunting but again breaks out with a big raw riff that’s dark and brooding. ‘For The Love Of Money’ is a twitching electronic beast as it moves slowly but purposefully to the chorus with all the dark frills of an electro pulsating gothic slap but the vocal add some softer texture to the track and its better for it.

Hearts and Rockets – ‘TV Is Boring (EP)’ (Psychichysteria) Following from their recent single and video ‘Square Eyes’ and single ‘On/Off’, Naarm (Melbourne)-based bratwave duo Hearts and Rockets’ 5-track EP, ‘TV is Boring’, is out on cassette and digitally today and is available via their Bandcamp pagepsychichysteria.com, and on all digital and streaming services.

The EP features 4 new originals, including recent singles ‘On/Off‘ with its hypnotic guitar lick, ‘Square Eyes‘ however is like a pulsating bass line and synth hook twitching like a metronome, plus the band’s longest track to date the title track ‘TV Is Boring‘ – which clocks in at almost 13 minutes. PLUS there’s a bonus cover of Black Flag’s classic anthem ‘TV Party’ and Hearts and Rockets’ post-punk anthem ‘Buy It’. Melbourne is having some cool tunes poured out of its backstreets with this really good post punk scuzzed up down n dirty rock n roll noise and we like it baby! Check it out Here

Finnegans Hell – ‘Happy Christmas’ (Sound Pollution) The second best Christmas song ever written? In any case “Happy Christmas” by Finnegan’s Hell qualifies as the second-best Christmas song coming from a Celtic punk band.
– “Fairytale of New York” is still number one, but “Happy Christmas” contains enough social realism to make you reach for the bottle once the song is over, says lead singer Pabs Finnegan. His haunting whiskey voice takes the listener through three shades of black in a song that depicts anything but a happy Christmas. It might not be as good as The Pogues (Obviously) nor is it Slade or Wizzard but it shure as shit beats most of the insipid crimbo tunes we hear around this time.

Carrjam – 21 – ‘Can You Feel It’ (sound Pollution) A project started by Dregen to tip the hat to Kiss drummer Eric Carr who has passed 30 years ago! featuring Dregen (The Hellacopters, Backyard Babies), Gustav Kronfelt (video producer), Jolle Atlagic (Electric Boys, The Quill), Jesper Lindgren (Velvet Insane), Ryan Roxie (Alice Cooper/Slash’s Snakepit) Åge Sten Nielsen (WigWam), Philip Shouse (Accept, Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons), Jesper Binzer (D-A-D) and Martin Ekelund (Bonafide). It must be cock rock o clock judging by the style of this slow grooving rock song. Together with some of the most well-known and KISS-inspired musicians, Dregen has recorded 2 songs written by Carr plus 2 KISS related bonus songs.

James Domestic – ‘Push On Through’ (KIBOU RECORDS) second single from James is an electronic departure from his day job with the Domestics. Lifted from James’ debut solo album ‘Carrion Repeating’, due out in April it’s a sparse ride that ends with a freak out of guitar noise broken down by a synth and the techo rhythm and drum beat. widescreen post punk for sure check out the video

Hanterhir – ‘Waiting For Bertie’ (Easy Action) Cornish alt.rockers HANTERHIR return with a brand new single and video ‘Waiting For Bertie’ An adventurous mix of post punk with psychedelic undertones as well as some flutey tones for good measure it seems like the time is right for the band to get back to releasing their album that is penned for early 2022 release Connect here

“You’ll love the electro stylings of Camden newbies Wax on Water” – KERRANG! MAGAZINE ESSENTIAL PLAYLIST

Wax on Water are an Alternative Rock band hailing from Camden, London, UK, that draw from grunge, electronica, and industrial sounds, mixed together with layers of strings, piano and intense guitars, to make a heady and unique ‘Electro-Grunge’ sound that is all their own. All songs are written, performed and produced by lead singer Maya Damaris with Steven Blessing working his dark magic on guitar. The band are set to release brooding new single “Seventh Son” on 17th September 2021 with a strategic ‘drip, drip, drip’ single releases to follow, with “The Drip Part” EP being released on 12th November, followed by later releases, and culminating in their full album “The Drip” – set to land in May 2022.

Maya Damaris is a multi-faceted creative talent: not only is she a consummate singer, performer and a versatile multi-instrumentalist, she also writes and produces all the musical output for the band. Originally from London, Damaris was a classically trained pianist and singer but started Wax on Water in 2012 because she “…wanted to create music that causes a reaction in people, in the same way that the grunge, rock and industrial bands that I grew up loving did to me”.  Her influences are eclectic but classic: the Motown greats, Blues singers like Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday, pop and rock ground-breakers Bowie, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush and Iggy Pop. Later, inspiration arrived in the form of experimental electronica: Kraftwerk, CAN, Laurie Anderson and Throbbing Gristle as well as metal, grunge and industrial bands My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, Soundgarden, Slayer and Nine Inch Nails. Maya expertly weaves all these formative influences to create the unique sound for Wax on Water.

Hailing from South-East London, prodigious guitarist Steven Blessing became a professional guitarist by the age of 15. After getting a music degree he started touring with the rock band Estrangor, for which he was the founder and main songwriter. Since then, he’s performed with a wide range of bands and worked in the studio with a variety of independent artists before joining Wax on Water in 2019. Steven’s guitar playing is heavily influenced by the classic rock and metal guitar greats Jimi Hendrix, Dimebag Darrell, Randy Rhoads and Jimmy Page.

Wax on Water’s 2018 debut album “Procession was a critically acclaimed album of seven songs of admirable diversity evoking the raucous grit of Queens of The Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails, to the rootsy goodness of The Black Crowes and beyond, all infused with Damaris’ inherent grungy flair. The positive reaction to this promising debut helped the band to secure a distribution deal with The Orchard/Sony Music for their own Record label, Howling Tempest Records.

Forthcoming album “The Drip” is a collection of 16 songs that takes the band’s previous successes and, with Blessing now firmly on board, adds an extra layer of guitar energy. Drums for the album were played by LA session drummer, Garren Orr (YolkLore, Tennis System) and the record was mixed at MooseCat Studios, LA and mastered by Will Borza at the Grammy Award Winning Howie Weinberg Mastering Studios, LA.

The single “Seventh Son” was written by Damaris in a hotel room in Los Angeles and then recorded in London in the summer of 2020. The track follows the ambitious and intriguing reimagining of the O’Jays Philadelphia Soul classic “For the Love of Money” as the second release from the album and is about the dark descent of a relationship. As Demaris says herself: “Seventh Son is about how a relationship can turn from being something that makes you feel alive to making you feel less than…it’s about reclaiming yourself when you’re standing on the shadow side of love.”
