I always love getting emails from Pirates Press about the new records coming our way, and a band who visit the UK regularly, as well as releasing most excellent albums, is The Drowns. ‘Harsh Reality’ is the new full-length album from Seattle’s The Drowns, produced by punk rock legend Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag) and mixed & mastered by Jason Livermore. Surely that’s enough to perk up the interest in this album.

Seeing as we’re only here for a good time and not a long time, The Drowns dish up the perfect soundtrack of honest, good tunes that are well produced and given the perfect amount of time to craft the solos and breaks. It’s not by accident these things happen; it’s a skill you can try long and hard to perfect or, like the Drowns,, you just have it in your DNA.

I saw a quote that The Drown have captured lightning in a bottle, and that’s exactly what they’ve done. Sure, they’ve been around long enough to modify their craft, but the tunes are right on the money, delivering song after song and sounding as good as ever, and if anything, on the first few plays might have just created a career best, which is no easy task.

There are chest beating sing from the rooftop tunes from start to finish, as they race out of the gates with the opening shots of ‘Always A Bastard’ having a razor-sharp edge to it; it’s got attitude and packs a punch. As the album meanders from track to track with familiar styles, when they hit the Living End sort of melody, they really hit cruise control with ‘Hellish Tattoo’ they seem really comfortable and excel at this kinda song. ‘Let’s Start A Cult’ delivers a thumping rhythm, and it’s a strength that they haven’t smoothed off the rough edges of their delivery because that’s a real high for me with the fist-pumping anthems; it’s all good and has teeth. ‘3rd & Pike’ mixes it up with a great arrangement, and it’s easy to see why they chose it for a single.

I’m sure the best place to hear these songs will be in a packed club where everyone is singing out loud and smiling because that’s what The Drowns have in their armoury: top tunes, great live and a sense of community running through the songs like ‘Burn The Page’ and the rockin ‘Vengence’.

Thirteen songs make for awesome value as well, right from the needle drop to the closing banger that is ‘No Better ‘. The Drowns ‘Harsh Reality’ is a winner, no doubt about it. You should head off to your local indie store and request they get a copy of this record in your hands asap you won’t regret it. Buy It!

If you are reading this, then you are probably well-versed in the history and songs of NYC singer/songwriter Jesse Malin. Following his life-changing spinal stroke in 2023, the Ex-D Generation frontman has been unable to tour and earn a living, so his musical brothers & sisters have banded together to help Jesse cover the costs on his road to recovery. The fruits of their labour have produced not one, but two sprawling compilation albums in his honour.

The first, ‘Silver Patron Saints’ released in 2024, featured the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Butch Walker and Billy Joe Armstrong. Now his record label Wicked Cool Records follows suit with the first of two volumes featuring artists who may not carry the same kudos as the aforementioned big hitters, but deliver the same rich quality of music.

Label mates, bandmates, peers and heroes join forces on ‘I Would Do It For You’. This 26-track compilation, produced by Lyle Hysen, crosses genres and generations, each artist giving their interpretation of songs from Jesse Malin’s extensive career.

While most tribute albums are hit and miss, I’m glad to report this one is a good ‘un. Most of these recordings turn the original on its head to give a certain ebb & flow that keeps the listener coming back for more. From country to dance, punk rock and Americana to power pop, all bases are covered. Standouts for RPM readers would be Hanoi Rocks legend Sami Yaffa giving ‘Black Haired Girl’ an unusual reggae twist, Prima Donna right at home with a punked-up ‘Everybody Wants To Rock N Roll’, and Valley Lodge delivering a power pop rendition of D Generation’s brooding ‘Too Loose’, with killer doo-wop backing vocals and throbbing bass to boot.

Elsewhere, Gogol Bordello bring their gypsy punk craziness to ‘Here’s The Situation’, Randy Schrager turns ‘Burning The Bowery’ into a laid-back, lo-fi affair and Stephen Chopek strips ‘High Lonesome’ bare, with just a strummed acoustic and an emotive vocal.

The ladies of the music world have stepped up to the cause too. Album opener ‘Shining Down’ is a euphoric delight, Amanda Cross adding countrified Tom Petty-style vibes to a Malin classic. URSA MINOR deliver a faithful rendition of ‘Keep On Burning’ and Bebe Buell melds dance beats and electronica with sultry vocals on ‘Dance To The System’.

There is a lot to take in on a 26-song collection, but there are more standouts on the first few listens than there are duds. Davey La gives a memorable and upbeat version of ‘Ameri’ka’, and James Maddock elevates ‘Bar Life’, swapping piano out for acoustic guitars and a raspy, 20-a-day cigarette habit vocal. The Dead Milkman offer up another interesting twist with ‘She Don’t Love Me Now’, a gothic, new wave makeover was not on the cards, but there we go. Nashville country style is represented by Robinlee Garber and Kelly Swindell on ‘Cigarettes & Violets’ and ‘You Know It’s Dark When Atheists Start To Pray ’, respectively.

Available as a double CD and a vinyl version with just 12 choice cuts, ‘I Would Do It For You’ is a fitting tribute that not only shines as an album in its own right, but showcases the songwriting talents of a much-loved soul who has a knack for a catchy tune and a way of writing stories about characters, love and life that few can match.

There are probably a dozen or so artists here you’ve never heard before, and maybe through this release you will find your new favourite band. That’s how it works sometimes. But I digress, that’s just a bonus. Shine on Jesse Malin on his road to recovery, and if you can spare the loose change to purchase any or all formats of this album, then do it, every sale helps towards his recovery.

Cancer and Cinematic Punk Rock N’ Roll Collide on Lorne Behrman’s Urgent New Single, “They Won’t Take Us Alive,” Out Now, On Spaghetty Town Records

“They Won’t Take Us Alive” Spotify

Art imitating life is a cliché, but it’s still crazy when it happens. When punk rock n’ roll singer-songwriter Lorne Behrman was putting the finishing touches on his third album, If Heaven Didn’t Hurt, out September 25th on Spaghetty Town Records, he found himself thrust into the narrative of its first single, “They Won’t Take Us Alive.”

The anthemic punk rock song tells the story of a couple unravelling while they watch a loved one die of cancer. It’s a fictional account of two people bonded together by their past and a shared death. Shortly before releasing the single, though, Behrman found himself facing his own cancer diagnosis.

“A year ago, I found out I had prostate cancer. At the time it was so minimal, that it didn’t require treatment. Over the year though, it progressed a lot, and I had to have surgery. It’s been a challenging time for me, with a lot of uncertainty and pain,” Behrman says. “The punky spirit and resilience of this song have stuck with me.”

A lone set of hooky punctuated chords sets off the song before a driving Ramones-style groove sets in. The chorus boasts a catchy minor-key chant, as the three protagonists admit their fate: they won’t take us alive. Nothing is spared in the song.

Thankfully, Behrman is on the mend and is expected to make a full recovery. “I thought I was too young for this, but I realize cancer goes after everyone and anyone,” Behrman says. “I’m getting through a dark time with a lot of love and support from my wife, my kids, my family, and my friends. Plus, I had an incredible medical team who I am very thankful for. Shout out to Dr. Al Hussein and his staff!”

The duality of heartbreak and humor define Behrman’s upcoming album, If Heaven Didn’t Hurt. The 10-track album stumbles through New York’s East Village in a hungover stupor, tripping down the avenues, pondering the lives of two women, their husbands, and how the artist’s own story felt spiritually intertwined with their narratives. Here, Behrman has curated a cinematic sleaze-o’sphere of gritty 1970s New York, the kind you see in Taxi Drive, Mean Streets, and The Panic At Needle Park, and superimposed imaginative tales of desperation, depravity, and, ultimately, a kind of burnished salvation.

Behrman has previously issued two critically-acclaimed full-lengths and an EP. His releases have garnered accolades and features in The Aquarian, Classic Rock Magazine, Vive Le Rock Magazine, Metronome, Glide Magazine, New Noise, Goldmine, and taste-making punk mag Razorcake. Behrman has played shows with Richard Lloyd (Television), Jeremy & the Harlequins, Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group), Jonny Polonsky, Adam Masterson, Lulu Lewis, and Diane Gentile, among many others. Outside of his solo career, Behrman has toured and recorded with The Dimestore Haloes, L.E.S. Stitches, The Dead Tricks, The Sweet Things, and The Outlaw Vinnie Stigma.

If Heaven Didn’t Hurt was produced and mixed by Matt Chiaravalle (Warren Zevon, Courtney Love, Debbie Harry, Joe Bonamassa), and features Howard Alper on drums (Cory Glover, Laura Branigan, $yndrm), Matthew Jacob Dougherty on bass, Rob Clores on keyboards (Black Crowes, Jesse Malin, Tom Jones), Danielle McCullough on backing vocals, and The Uptown Horns (James Brown, Tom Waits, The Rolling Stones).

The Dogs are the Oslo-based band in which only one member is actually from Oslo but hey why not Garage punk rock n roll is universal we’re not defined by borders thats for the pearl clutching right wingers, no way baby were as free as the birds or the wild dogs that run free in the hills or in this case somewhere in Europe. These dogs show their teeth and not just their bark, although that’s pretty fuckin decent judging by the sound of this album. A total of 12 albums (13 if you include this bad boy), countless Norwegian tours, unusual one-off events such as opening for Bruce Springsteen, which is a pretty big fuckin deal in anyone’s money, so here we are as 2026 is beginning to fade away as winter kicks in, and we need something red hot to keep us warm inside, so why not this garage-rockin ‘ piece of plastic.

Norway has a rich heritage for kicking out the jams, and The Dogs have been a big part of that, along with the mighty Gluecifer, so when we kick off with ‘Back To Fucking’ it’s like the mighty Turbonegro have found their spirit animal and the woo-woos are just the beginning. Full throttle, boundless energy it’s coming out swinging, and I highly approve. Imagine Turbonegro covering Cock Sparrer’s ‘Because You’re Young’ on a downer, you’re in the right ballpark. The one thing you can guarantee with ‘Trauma Junkie is it’s a zero fucks given ram raid ride through some Mad Max end-of-days landscape, with this being the soundtrack to another day in hell. The atmospheric, moody and rather chillin ‘Close IS Just Another Word For Nothing’ is a bleak, cold and bold, brooding beast. The song starts like a living nightmare before building into something epic and rather special. If Cave was still on the gear and delving into his worst nightmares, then he might come close to this rotting corpse of a track, and I love it from the distant, sparse intro to the soaring guitar solo, clocking in at a shade under six minutes; it’s a momentous song to throw in early doors.

If you’re looking to get over the last track, then step away from any sharp objects; ‘Fuck Em’ is a pissed-off kick to the temple. Taking no prisoners and pulling no punches, this rages from the opening note to the final crescendo. Imagine Jesus Lizard on speed and being told their house had burned down with everything in it. Yeah, almost close to how this song sounds, but anyway Fuck em, eh? We’re living on borrowed time anyway.

The middle half of the album ranges from epic to superb, coming on like prime-time Godfathers on ‘7-25’ before ‘Another Child Of The Cross’ takes us on another of those frantic widescreen trips, with the bass rumbling in your ear like a hornet or two, and then the chorus melody seems to take you somewhere else in a soothing way, like someone’s running their fingers through your hair before pulling it, jolting you back to reality in the blink of an eye.

I’ll be fair: when I saw the album being drip-fed, I was looking forward to hearing what was on offer in 2026 and if they still had the chops, but on repeated plays in its entirety, I can’t step away from it and love the darkness and helplessness of it, but juxtaposed with the melodies and twisted choruses, I love it. Kristopher Schaus’s vocals are captivating, and I don’t know whether to put my fists up to fight him or grab him for a big hug. His delivery is excellent, and songs like ‘Do You Miss Me At All’ sound bursting with emotion that elevates the music. His vocals sit on top of the production and are sympathetic to the songs and the lyrics, giving them a welcome shine and polish. Hell, you could even dance like a bitch to ‘Come On’ ok so you might need to consume a few shots and maybe a pill or two, but there is still the superb ‘Becoming God Of Nothing’ to close the album with a soaring, upbeat track that just makes me want to punch the air with a triumphant hell yeah! I highly recommend you buy this record because you will come to love it in an instant, and you will embrace the abrasive side and fill up with the melodic side. The Dogs have created a career high with ‘Trauma Junkie’ and I’m delighted to add it to my already pretty awesome collection of albums. Just buy it, or I’m sending the boys round.

Pre-order HERE – Single – Doin’ Alright

Former NY Loose frontwoman Brijitte West returns with a brand-new album, Brijitte West and the Greenowskis.

Recorded in Italy with an all-Italian band, notably Wilko Zanni, guitarist and singer with Italian rock institution Rats, and Lester Greenowski, Italian singer, songwriter and bassist, the album features 14 tracks, including 12 new songs, a cover of the Dead Boys, All This and More, and an acoustic version of an NY Loose deep cut, The Luckiest Girl.

Brijitte West says, “A lot of people think of me as an omniscient character – I’m sort of there, but I’m not there. This new album, and particularly the single Doin’ Alright, is me saying: I’m still here, I’m still rocking. I’m still turning up the mains and breaking free from the chains that held me down.”

West first made her mark in New York’s Lower East Side, drawing on the explosive musical aesthetics of the Ramones, the Stooges and the wider New York punk scene. NY Loose developed a sound and persona that fused garage rock and punk with a glamorous edge, finding a loyal following among punk, glam and rock ’n’ roll fans that remains strong today.

Highlights of the new record include a track inspired by those early years: My Lower East Side is a vivid recollection of the gritty NY club scene, the excitement and the relentless competition between bands. Brijitte says, “There were poster wars. We would have to hit the streets at 3 a.m. because you had to be the last one to put your poster up, otherwise it would be covered over by other bands. We spent what money we had on rehearsal spaces and instruments, so I remember our shoes being held together with duct tape.”

West turns inward with Sorry I’ve Been a Stranger, a song about reconnecting with someone who once meant a great deal to her after years apart. On Don’t Hurt Yourself, she tackles the difficult subject of self-harm: “It’s a terrible illness that doesn’t get talked about enough – and one that affected someone very close to me, so it was a topic I really wanted to write a song about.”

The album closes with Nobody Won and The Luckiest Girl. Nobody Won looks back at the difficult final years of NY Loose, the tensions within the band and the brutal reality of the music business. West says, “It’s about how things were not working for us. It resulted in no one doing anything for a very long time because we were battle-scarred from everything. There was no prize.”

But for Brijitte, rock ’n’ roll will always be in her blood. Her lyrics remain a form of self-therapy and a defining strength, balancing sass and swagger with vulnerability.

Brijitte says, “In a lot of ways, I feel this is the best album I have ever made. It feels like the NY Loose album that never was, yet a seamless collaboration with the best band I have ever worked with.”

Brijitte West and the Greenowskis are:

Brijitte West - Lead Vocals
Wilko Zanni – Guitars, Vocals, Percussions
Lorenzo Vacondio – Guitars, Vocals
Lester Greenowski – Bass, Vocals, Piano, Lead Vocals On Brutta Bimba Bella
Davide Furlani – Drums
Nino –  Pedals and Noise

Check out the latest podcast from the funboy three- well, the jolly boys duo as Chris is on a sabbatical due to an adverse physical turn with the change in the weather.

This week’s episode is the usual jam-packed episode with new tunes from the underground and some from the overground as well, but Episode 134 is a special due to us having Mauro Venegas from Mauro & The Mob drop by to tell us about his new project and what we can expect, so we end the episode with my chat with Mauro and play his new single.

The Playlist is our usual top tunes, but this week’s episode is stacked with tributes to the recent passing of legend Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys. A few tracks he played on and wrote, as well as a cover from Slipknot frontman, which is a new one for Hotshot. So as we say adios to Cheetah, this is our track list for this episode –

01. The Dead Boys

02. Batusis

03. Sami Yaffa from the Friends of jesse Malin album out on Wicked Cool Records

04. Gyasi with the new single ‘You Got The Look’ out on alive naturalsound

05. Japans The Fadeaways bring us some Garage punk rock with ‘That Girl’

06. The Meffs release their latest album ‘Business’ so it would be rude not to include a track off the album this week.

07. Corey Taylor of Slipknot did an exceptional cover of the Dead Boys’ classic ‘All This And More’, so thought it was a nice tribute to Cheetah this week.

08. Randy Shrager offers a different flavour on this Jesse Malin track ‘Burning The Bowery’ from the Friends Of Jesse Malin record.

09. Chris Masuak and his band Dog Soldiers is a brand new band outta Australia, and Chris is best known for being a member of Radio Birdman expect to hear more from Dog Soldiers in the coming weeks. This is ‘The Shiny Side’

11. Dan Baird is Hotshots’ classic entry this week with a track off ‘Buffalo Nickel’

12. Hotshots final offering this week is The Distillers and the title track from ‘Coral Fang’

13. The penultimate track this week is dedicated to Mauro Venegas, who rounds off this weeks show with a quick chat about his new project Mauro & The Mob but he asked us to play something by the Wipers which was and is a pleasure to add to our list so heres ‘Over The Edge’.

14. We close off this week’s show with the interview with Mauro about his band as well as previous bands he’s played with over the years. Mauro And The Mob’s ‘What Have I Got To Lose’ is the final track on this week’s jam-packed episode. Until next week, enjoy. Legendary NWOBHM pioneers – Tygers of Pan Tang have done their best to keep the flag of true British metal flying for more than four decades. They have continued to tour and release new music regularly, and they have come back strong with their latest release: Electrifyed. The band influenced many who came after them, including some of the biggest names in metal. James Hetfield from Metallica is regularly pictured wearing a Tygers shirt. Their former guitarist John Sykes (RIP) went on to be a member of Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake and his own project, the wonderful Blue Murder.

The Tygers have given us ten solid (and heavy!) tracks on Electrifyed with some fantastic performances from the individual members. They come together to deliver a great package of traditional heavy metal. Vocalist Jack Meille sounds great, a hint of Robert Plant in his style, he belts out the tracks with gusto, while delivering catchy hooks. His clear articulation enables the listener to pick up the lyrics with ease.

The album kicks off with Rise Up! An atmospheric intro soon gives way to a full – on riff laden track with a huge chorus. Forevermore showcases more vocal gymnastics from Meille, while founding guitarist Robb Weir and fellow lead guitarist John Foottit crunch and shred away to their hearts content. The Powers That Be is another fist pumping anthem with a forceful drum intro courtesy of Craig Ellis. Lyrically, the song discusses the state of the world as it currently stands and the futility of war.

Dark Divinity is a mid paced chugger with some nice bass work from Huw Holding. The album’s title track is an absolute banger, lyrically it reminds me of Metallica’s: Ride The Lightning with its subject matter of the ever controversial electric chair. Some great riffs and vocal melodies help to make it a stand out track. A Shadow On Fire is another solid head banger, more great guitar work on display here. The Nail is another chugfest, a real head nodder.

The production from Marco Angioni is punchy and bright, and makes the album an enjoyable listen. The Fight Goes On has an early Saxon vibe to it, the riff has the NWOBHM all over it. Wonderful stuff. Dark Skies has an ear worm of a chorus that has stayed with me well after the initial few listens. The album closes with the Zeppelin – esque: Revenge Is Sweet. Overall, Electrifyed is a solid heavy metal album. The album’s cover art from Andy Pilkington is superb too.

I’ll leave it to founding member Rob Weir to give us his thoughts on the album: “It’s time to honour the musical movement that we helped to start – the ‘New Wave of British Heavy Metal’. This is a brand new Heavy Metal album from us, steeped in the late ‘70s, flavoured from the ‘80s and ready for consumption right now!”

THE MARY TYLER WHORES ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM ‘AS FILTHY AS WE WANNA BE’ TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 9TH VIA CADIZ MUSIC

PRODUCED BY GREG HETSON FROM CIRCLE JERKS/BAD RELIGION

“Whooooaaa! A glorious infection of pure punk chaos.” Iggy Pop

“One of the fiercest debuts in years! Their own savage mutation of punk rock & roll-twisted to perfection and proudly produced by yours truly.” Greg Hetson

The Mary Tyler Whores, notorious punk rock legends from Florida, are finally set to cement their reputation with their debut album ‘As Filthy As We Wanna Be’, due for release on October 9th via Cadiz Music.

It’s a long and treacherous story that starts in the back alleys of South Florida in 1999 where three degenerates with too much attitude and not enough sense accidentally sparked a cult-level punk phenomenon.

Front and centre was Frankie “Crime” Cassara — vocalist, ringleader, and certified public menace. Beside him, slinging riffs like Molotov cocktails, stood Doobie Tyler Whore, a six-string saboteur with a permanent snarl and a knack for turning any stage into a war zone. And behind the kit, pounding out the heartbeat of the apocalypse, was the late Joey Image — yes, that’s Joey Image of “The Misfits” — you know “Horror Business, Night of the Living Dead, Legacy of Brutality”, Proto-Hardcore Pioneers, Eternal Icons, R.I.P. Rest in Punk Joey.

The Mary Tyler Whores shared stages with punk royalty and longtime friends: The Misfits (R.I.P. Joey), Iggy Pop, GBH, Murphy’s Law, The Casualties, The Bouncing Souls, U.S. Bombs, and countless others. The road stories get carved into the annals of madness, even Iggy Pop would stand hysterically amused from the side of the stage when a fan ripped off his prosthetic leg, with a The Mary Tyler Whores sticker on it, and hurled it at Frankie from the front row — who immediately began bashing Doobie over the head with it, creating a legendary moment of punk rock theatre.

Fast-forward to 2023. After more than a decade running wild in California, Frankie decided it was time to dig up the corpse of The Mary Tyler Whores and shock it back to life. He rounded up his best offenders and the OG wrecking crew reported for duty.

With the band back together,Frankie called his old buddy and childhood mentor, Greg Hetson (Circle Jerks, Bad Religion), to sign on, witness, and produce their debut album “As Filthy As We Wanna Be” at his own Hetson Sound Studios in Encino, California.

The band have unleashed a high-octane and thrilling new single called ‘Hell On Wheels’ that comes with an equally disorientating and bewildering video!

“Hell on Wheels” came out of this off-the-wall spark from my partner in crime, Doobie Tyler Whore our rhythm guitar player and co-founder of The Mary Tyler Whores. This guy would roll into practice and just scream this one line over and over: “My grandma drives a ’58.” That was it. No explanation, no structure just that wild-ass line,” says Frankie.

“Turns out it was real. Doobie’s grandmother drove a ’58 Chevy beatnik lunatic, hot-rod savage, addicted to speed. Pure chaos energy. Completely unhinged in the best possible way. That DNA didn’t skip a beat, it went straight into Doobie, straight into this band. Full butterfly effect of noise, gasoline, and bad decisions. I took that one line and built “Hell on Wheels” around it. It became exactly what this band is loud, reckless and filthy. One of the hardest-hitting representations of The Mary Tyler Whores and yeah, a twisted love letter to Doobie’s grandma and everything she accidentally unleashed.

The “Hell on Wheels” video? Forget it. Faust, our visual madman, caught it in a net and burned it alive. No polish, no pretending, just raw unfiltered live energy, fractured edits, insane mixed-media chaos, and explosive SFX. It feels like a train off the rails at 100 miles an hour with no brakes, full-throttle sensory overload.”

In 2024 and 2025, The Mary Tyler Whores injected four rabid singles—and their brilliantly deranged videos—straight into the bloodstream of the underground: “White Trash Girl,” “American Sex Fiend,” “Savage World,” and their sweat-drenched, DEVO-devoted, buck-wild cover of “Whip It.” Each release slammed down like a slow-motion brawl in a bathroom— loud, idiotic, trashy and hypnotically addictive.

On March 2, 2025, fate swung full circle. Iggy Pop and his BBC Radio 6 producer from Iggy’s own “Confidential Show” in London heard “American Sex Fiend” blasting over the airwaves in the UK. Iggy recognized the chaos of his old friends and, without hesitation, added the track to his BBC show, locking it into his playlist and giving The Mary Tyler Whores a full transatlantic salute from the godfather of punk himself.

Shortly after, they were personally invited by Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope of the legendary Insane Clown Posse to appear on the iconic stage at the 2025 Juggalo Festival: Gathering of Legends, where they absolutely annihilated the stage to a massive Juggalo crowd. Whoop Whoop! They torched 2025 with a filthy end-of-the-year riot in California supporting T.S.O.L., then headlined their Holiday Slam Festival downtown L.A., dragging fans into total Christmas carnage.

The Mary Tyler Whores will spend end of 2026-2027 tearing through the UK and Europe and hurled straight into the faces of a generation too soft to survive it. The Mary Tyler Whores come back hotter, meaner, and uglier than ever. They crash into the next wave of beaten-down, fucked-up, worn-out kids who need something filthy enough to bite back. Punk didn’t die, it mutated, sharpened its teeth and started laughing in your face!

Say hello to the next big thing. Hell, maybe the last thing standing.

The Mary Tyler Whores are:

Frankie “Crime” Cassara — Lead Vocalist
Doobie Tyler Whore — Rhythm Guitarist
Rob Deuce — Lead Guitarist
George “Korky” Kokkoris — Drums
Aaron “The Proj” Miller — Bass/Guitar

– Michael Monroe –

The physical version of The Complete Collection 1981-1984 includes a 36-page photobook featuring many previously unseen and rare shots, as well as studio album art cards from Hanoi Rock’s legendary initial run as a band.

This set allows a timely reappraisal of Hanoi Rock’s hugely potent work. The first Finnish band to chart in the UK and get their music heard around the world, their fusion of punk rock energy and attitude with classic glam rock n’ roll quickly proved hard for the world to disregard. Frontman Michael Monroe was, and still very much is, an electric livewire of red hot energy, his shock of bleached blonde hair, all killer looks and killer hooks, made for an unforgettable live experience. This, combined with two sharp-shootin’ guitar gunslingers Nasty Suicide and Andy McCoy flanking left and right, whilst bassist Sami Yaffa and drummer Gyp Casino (later replaced by Razzle) held down the hefty rhythms, Hanoi Rocks had everything it takes to be one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

It will always be one of the biggest tragedies in the history of rock that by 1984, when the band were considered to be on the verge of international breakthrough with the release of their first major label album ‘Two Steps From The Move’, Hanoi Rocks had to disastrously cut their first US tour short when their drummer Nicholas ‘Razzle’ Dingley died in a tragic car accident. The band, reeling from the sudden loss, split in 1985.

Thankfully, the story didn’t end there and Hanoi Rock’s legacy lived on as a major influence on the glam metal era of Guns n’ Roses, Faster Pussycat, Skid Row and Poison etc, and the band reformed again in the early 2000s until 2009, reuniting their original line-up one more time in 2022 to celebrate Monroe’s 60th birthday at the Helsinki Ice Hall.

The Complete Collection 1981-1984 displays in full the enduring impact of Hanoi Rocks’ song-writing craft, ballistic energy and colourful glamourous flair for fans of old and future generations to discover and enjoy.

Imagine a band who plays their instruments drenched in sweat through overdriven amps, influenced by a whole heap of goodness from The Wildhearts through the Ramones via some prime time Dirtbox Disco and a having a real blast whilst doing so. Horns a honkin’, pianos tonkin’, whilst the band are whipping up a storm, using melodies to sing your hearts out to that’s about where I hear Dave Delinquent and his iou’s.

The album is the emobiment of all kiiler and no filler as they go through the handbook of genres and influences and toss it away and just go with their gut and what comes out of their hearts and heads.

Ten tracks on offer from the opening razor sharp ‘Rocksteady Girl’ through the melodic ‘Alleycats In Love’ complete with its horn honkin gold. The hooks are aplenty and they use every bit of catchiness they can muster. Sure its not original but so what they are knockin out killer tunes at every turn it sounds like a party on wax ‘Everybody Loves You’ is excellent and the first half closer is ‘Shame Of My Youth’ with its Big Country influenced melody which I didn’t see coming but is a most welcome shift of gears.

Side two just keeps on rockin throwing up catchy melody and riffs all over the place its like a sensless things meets The Wildhearts overload and I do love the saxophone taking it into different directions when you wern’t expecting it. ‘Not A Fan’ leaves just the uptempo rocker ‘Todays A Drag’ to close the album off and what a great way to sign off. If you want an album packed with hooks and catchy melodies then look no further Dave Delinquent and his IOU’s is here to prove that rock n roll isn’t dead its alive and kickin out the jams. Buy it!
