‘JACKIE WORKS FOR THE NHS+ UK NOVEMBER HEADLINE TOUR

A tour de force of twelve frenetic, frenzied, rapturous tracks, the album will also include their latest offering ‘Jackie Works For The NHS‘ — a monster garage rock anthem with a chorus that will blow the roof off venues across the country when they take to the road in November. Totalling seven shows, the tour will conclude in what will be a simply wild night in the capital at London’s Garage on 17 November.

“England 2023. Our beloved NHS is being dismantled piece by piece,” the band explain. “Jackie lives on our block. Jackie works for the NHS. We love Jackie. God save the NHS.”

A maximum rock’n’roll trio conceived during lockdown to blow the cobwebs away and remind us of what music has been missing, the band are made up of the powerhouse duo of James Walbourne (The Pretenders, The Pogues, The Rails) and Kristoffer Sonne (Chrissie Hynde, Willie Nelson), the band’s first single “All Cranked Up” hit the 6 Music B-List last summer, followed by Buzzkill”, an angular, twisted ear worm produced by David Wrench (Courtney Barnett, XX, Frank Ocean).

His Lordship sold out their debut UK tour in 2022, and then joined Jason Isbell on a sell out European tour culminating with a roof raising show at London’s Eventim Apollo. Earlier this year the band also headed out on their biggest headline tour to date, taking in 12 cities, including a sold-out headline show at London’s Lafayette.

Now, to coincide with the album announcement, the band will be hitting the road again for a run of UK headline shows this November. Full dates and details below.

Formed out of the ashes of that LA rockers Smash Fashion, brand new four-piece CRYMWAV are here to rock you like it’s 1979!

Having racked up four albums over the couple of decades, most recently with 2018’s glorious ‘Rompous Pompous’, Smash Fashion found themselves frustrated at the side of the road, having seen off yet another rhythm section. Flying V-toting glam tag-team Roger Deering and Lloyd Stewart Casson had a bunch of songs written but nowhere to go. His rock’n’roll compass spinning wildly, Deering took time out, fetching up in London on a trip to see his girlfriend. It was there that he suddenly saw the light!

“I spent some time in Ladbroke Grove, I brought my guitar and wrote a bunch of newer, darker material. I felt I was channelling the vibes of the area… Hawkwind, Motörhead and The Clash…” Add to that soupçon of Lizzy, The Damned, The Ruts, UFO – don’t forget Phil Mogg’s nephew Nigel had already slung bass with the Fashion brigade – and a liberal dose of NWOBHM and you’re getting a very heavy picture.

Calling his buddy to gas up the van, on his return, the pair hooked up with hard-hitting drummer Greg Rogers, once of Maryland metal legends The Obsessed and currently LA stoners Goatsnake, and bassist Bruce Braddock, Deering’s old sparring partner from Miami punks The Drills, who played with everyone from Bad Brains and the Dead Boys to the Ramones and Motörhead.

Locking down in their rehearsal room, they came together with a sound at once new yet one that’s paid its dues – bass-heavy and crammed with hooks, nodding to metal, punk and post punk. The results are a six-track EP titled 24/7 – the sweat-soaked door number on their downtown rehearsal dungeon.

Six hot tracks frontloaded with hungry riffage, crunching grooves and fluid, melodic Schenker-style soloing, the video for the lead track ‘American Carnage’ is already picking up media traction, while the icing on the cake is a timely tribute to recently-departed Saints, Damned and Tank bassist Algy Ward, in the shape of a fine, throbbing cover of the latter’s ‘Walking Barefoot Over Glass’; an anthem in itself for these rock’n’roll vets…

“We’ve been through the record deals, the drugs, the ups and downs,” says Deering. “We’ve all gone through the rock wars and are still going. It’s what we do.”

24/7 is out through Electric Pudding Records on 27 October.

New Zealand born, London based rockers Desperate Measures return October 13th with a banging brand-new thrill ride titled ‘Sublime Destruction’. A high-voltage, hook-laden smasher, it comes firing out of the traps, all guns blazing and all speakers blaring.

“New single ‘Sublime Destruction’ is about how normal everyday things we take for granted are slowly being taken away and eroded, whether it’s our rights, the environment or even the health system,” explains frontman Eugene Butcher. “Blink and they will be gone.”

Following previous singles ‘Thinking Of England’ and ‘Back To The Rats’, ‘Sublime Destruction’ is another taster from the bands forthcoming debut album due early 2024. Recorded once again with Andy Brook (who has produced, engineered, and toured with the like of Status Quo, Ginger Wildheart, Wonk Unit, Hayseed Dixie…) at The Brook Studios in Wallington, Surrey, between recordings Desperate Measures have been busying themselves with a host of gigs, playing alongside Killing Joke, The Members, XSLF, Wingmen, The Boys and Spear Of Destiny etc.

The title track of Danny The K / Dan Kopko’s first solo EP on Rum Bar Records ‘Cigarettes & Silhouettes’ – Shot in a rocking horse graveyard that goes by the name “Ponyhenge” – video masterfully shot by the inimitable Harry McCoy. Order the single or, hell, the whole EP Here

Danny Kopko who is a also a member of The Shang Hi Los, Watts and The Peppermint Kicks certainly has pedigree when it comes to rockin and rollin. The EP oozes class mixingg up old school new wave with great hooks like the uber cool ‘Roller Derby Girl’ and the dreamy sunshine pop of ‘The Skateaway’ for an EP its a great taster as to what Danny is capable of by himself. Sadly its not enough – us greedy consumers want more so hopefully this is a prelude to a long player and thus far the whistle is wet but c’mon Rum Bar get this guy back in the studio and lets hear more more more. Dannyoozes class and this is just the beginning

Listen to ‘Oblivion’ Here

Edinburgh, ScotlandOctober 06, 2023 – Following up the announcement of BILLY LIAR’s new album “Oblivion,” he has just dropped his first single “Oblivion” on all streaming platforms! CLICK HERE to listen to the song. Additionally, his album “Crisis Actor” is available for pre-order on the Pirates Press Records website.

“Billy Liar is one of my favorite songwriters. Powerful and honest.” – Tim Armstrong (Rancid)

That’s one hell of a statement coming from Armstrong, a guy who knows his way around a tune as one of the most beloved songwriters in punk rock history.

A single listen to Billy Liar’s new album “Crisis Actor” will have any listener agree with Armstrong. With this album, Billy Liar showcases his outstanding talent for storytelling and his ability to capture raw, unfiltered emotions that resonate with listeners on a deeply personal level. These songs are bold, brash, and destined to be played loud in any size venue Billy steps into, from a solo show at a DIY space to a full-band set on a giant festival stage and everywhere in between…all with fans screaming back every word!

From the outset of “Crisis Actor,” Billy Liar commands the listener’s attention. From the opening track “Oblivion,” he pulls no punches when he sings “The only way I win is by not giving in to oblivion.”

Throughout the album, Billy intricately weaves anecdotes, scathing social commentary, and self-realization to craft a record that will please old and new punks alike. Drawing the inevitable comparison to the legendary punk troubadour Billy, Mr. Liar shares Mr. Bragg’s ability to address society, politics, and the world at large through the lens of lived experience and deeply personal, confessional emotion.

And just to put “Crisis Actor” over the top, a friend turns up to lend his familiar voice to one of the record’s highlights: the one and only Frank Turner joins Billy on “Negroni,” adding his trademark powerhouse grit to Liar’s boundless, exuberant energy.

With “Crisis Actor,” Billy Liar is poised to step up as a central voice in a new wave of singer-songwriters ready to tell their tales to listeners across the world. Clocking in at just 28 minutes, this album is a proverbial uppercut to the jaw. It hits you hard and fast, but it is intricate enough to reward close repeat listens. This is fortunate, because you’ll find yourself dropping the needle on this one again and again!

Whether armed only with his guitar or backed by a full band, Billy Liar will be traveling the globe, commanding stages of pubs, clubs, and arenas alike with this new set of tunes ready to catapult him into the hearts – and record collections – of punks worldwide!

“This is so good, a brooding, bluesy work out which would sound quite good in a Peaky Blinders-esque epic, perhaps we should also pass that on to that nice Cillian Murphy fellow…” Steve Lamacq, BBC6 Music

“What a return, sounding so good…superb stuff.” John Kennedy, Radio X

“Beauty in the songwriting, with John J. Presley displaying Nick Cave-esque levels of vocal intensity.” CLASH

“A ferocious, belly-deep sound, but somehow tender with it.” The Guardian (Laura Barton)

Brighton based multi-instrumentalist John J. Presley returns with a new album ‘Chaos and Calypso’, due October 20th via God Unknown Records. Following a period of activity in May of this year, John broke a three-year hiatus with the brooding, hypnotic single ‘Sinnerman’ (a collaboration with friend Laura-Marty Carter from Blood Red Shoes), and live shows with Radiohead’s Philip Selway and Gaz Coombes (Supergrass).

‘Chaos and Calypso’ features the first new music from Presley since his debut album ‘As The Night Draws In’ in 2019 and the vinyl only lockdown release ‘Albany Sessions’, which were both released to great acclaim. Presley’s music is hard to categorize but that is its strength – from folk blues noir moments to tasteful post rock walls of sound, – classic songwriting to improvised, experimental moments, Presley is constantly creating a tapestry that will engage, challenge, and inspire.

A diary piece that echoes a period of ill health, of spiralling vertigo and misdiagnoses, ‘Chaos and Calypso’ shows Presley’s trademark guitar tone in full effect with enough space in the mix to weave in a new palette of textures from drum machines and synths throughout. Presley plays guitar, bass and pedal steel on the new record and is an in-demand player too – Nadine Shah, Duke Garwood, Laura-Mary Carter, Juanita Stein and Smoke Fairies have all had him join their line ups.

Finally free of the confines of the studio, Presley is ready to bring ‘Chaos and Calypso’ to life in venues across the UK and following a special album launch show at Third Man in London on October 18th, will undertake a headline UK tour in February 2024.

THE DWARVES Concept Album comes out November 17! This sprawling 20 song record covers every style from hardcore to garage rock and surf music, experimental noise, pop punk duets and bar band rock & roll. One look at the classic (censored) cover shot by F. Scott Schafer tells you the mighty Dwarves have returned! So get ready for the album of the year and see the masters of mayhem when they tour pretty much everywhere!

Dwarves Facebook is here     Dwarves classic LP reissues available here

2023 marks the 20th Anniversary of the long out of print first album from the Cheats, ‘Cheap Pills’ was the name and sleazy punk n roll was the name of the game and straight from the get go ‘Automatic Reaction’ signalled the charge. To celebrate the band enlisted new guitarist, Johnny Razorblade, to Re-EQ and remaster the original release and a sterling job he’s done and having a fresh set of ears on the songs was an inspired choice. It doesn’t end there though because they wanted to add value and plenty of bang for your bucks so they also added the original No Goods’ demo (which included a cover of The Joneses “Pill Box”) and a couple live tracks recorded on their recent spring tour with Riverside Odds. Screaming Crow Records also redesigned and upgraded the original “Cheap Pills” layout design.

Hell if you don’t dig the Ramones bop of the title track then you’ve landed on the wrong website because this is snotty as fuck and not having heard this album for a while I forgot how good it was. its no frills for sure, the riffs are dirty and nasty ‘Just Like You’ is a back alley brawl and as you dive into the album there are moments of unbridled joy as ‘5X Loser’ takes a slug before the Steve Jones ugly riff-a-rama kicks in. ‘Bombs Away’ is a banger reminding me of The Black Halos at their scuzziest and as my learned friend once told me that he was punk as fuck I’m sure he must have been listening to ‘Buzz Bomb’ when he had the realisation.

‘Young and Dumb’ has aged really well and then you enter the demo territory rapid and rough is always a great place to be and these bonus cuts are wild and reckless and well worth digging into especially their take on the Joneses classic ‘Pillbox’.

If you’ve never heard the band then this is a wonderful place to start and work backwards. where did all those wasted years go? right back to where it all began. Buy it!

HeWhoCannotBeNamed has released his second video from his latest “Impostor”.  This time with Nick Oliveri (QOTSA, Mondo Generator, Kyuss and many more) on vocals and in the video.  Check it out!
Vinyl is still for sale in North America from STR. Europe,  pick one up from Beluga Records or Ghost Highway Recordings.

Kurt Baker is in the club and kicking off in style, wrapping his lips around some Gallagher Brothershow-offs sneering Rock n Roll ‘Hittin Roc Bottom’ with a solid riff and some show off lead breaks that shimmy into an uber cool chorus thats got gang vocals to die for. Hell, by the second chorus, I’m punching the air and shaking my tambourine. For those not in the loop Kurt Baker is a prolific churner out of power-popping rock ‘n’n roll and some. His records drip with class and the melodies he crams into his songs sure beat the hell out of a bazillion bands who try to hit the mark. The fact hes on Wicked Cool means someone somewhere knows their stuff.

Baker is certainly rockin’ these songs up and making them more powerful than pop as the title track will testify as the beefy drums kick into a tried and tested riff. Man, this guy can’t sleep with the amount of stand-out melodies he takes ownership of from the ether. Another thing you’ll notice is its sunshine rock n roll, you imagine he writes and records with a beaming smile slapped across his face, ‘She Don’t Wanna Be Alone’ will testify to that. Even if he’s singing about relationships gone bad or not the best situations you imagine they’ll shake hands and just move on its what Kurt would have wanted.

The album shapes up for a cruise around the highs and lows of 80s power pop and new wave legends from the Costellos to the Cheap Tricks its all woven into the Baker DNA. ‘Anchors Up’ is punchy pop wearing a fingerless leather glove sneering into one of those slim mics with a pair of crisp hi-tops bopping up and down to the beat. But hey things get funky on ‘Love Express’ like he’s been holidaying at the club Tropicana, totally unashamedly the funky fuckers.

The 80s vibe whatever genre isn’t far away as ‘Bright Blue Sky’ with its punchy bass line struts in only being ushered out of the way for the ‘Missed Connection’ as that power gets rounded off with some shiny synth-driven pop. The ‘Good Feelings’ push the envelope with some spandex and legwarmer work sounding like a track from some weekend at Bernies teen flick for kids who should know better.

To my taste ‘Go Better’ is the territory where Baker excels turning up the amps and rockin’ like they’ve just discovered Cheap Trick and The Runaways. ‘In Love Again’ is pure 80s new wave al a Costello and his attractions. To be fair ‘Not Right’ is in the same ballpark with a killer melody and the song structure is excellent. Only leaving an acoustic stab at Britpop USA style in the shape of ‘It Was You’ Now if this was the new Goo Goo Dolls track it would sell a truckload and people would be rightly hailing the band’s resurrection from the abyss they fell into but this is Kurt Baker, a true American hero who has mastered his craft and written another top-notch record. Just buy it! It will make you smile and fill your heart with wonderful tunes – Welcome to the Rock n Roll Club.
